OkOk. First and foremost, I didn't enjoy the show like I thought I would. The acting was great, the story though.... It felt like they were trying to put up as much information and events in order to keep people in suspense, but what it really did was confuse me and overdo it. Too many things happening and twists that were anticlimactic, I found myself saying "Ohhhhkay", A LOT. :/. Female friendships are such a central part of womanhood and I think this show conveyed how deeply these bonds influence and support women. Hwa-young really did save this series for me, her presence on and off screen was what made the show (literally). I liked how they wrote her character and she made the watch worthwhile. One sex scene in the series threw me off tho.... It was so bizarre like?? Ya'll just be writing anything. Aside from that, I DID NOT LIKE THE STORY. IT WAS MID, BUT I HAD TO SEE IT THROUGH FOR IN-JOO.
AMAZING chemistry between the two leads. The ending took a really dark turn, which is criminally fitting for this movie. Simplifies su!c!d3 in a way that is so different from other media that talks about, shows, and unpacks mental illness. Insane directorial debut from Carmichael! His talent on and off screen is exceptional and dearly treasured. Abbott's delivery was so deep cutting due to his character's personality and story. Felt immense frustration and anger because he was swept away and hurt by the evils of others. A character that anyone can see bits and pieces of themselves in. Val and Kevin's friendship exceeded normal expectations and contained a beautiful, touching spark.
A SCENE THAT STUCK WITH ME!
Val: "Remember when we were kids and, like, I'd be in a dark place and you'd always try to distract me by doing something dumb like make me race you on your bike or you know?
Kevin: "Yeah. Yeah. I remember. What about it?" Val: "Thanks for trying to turn things around for me. I appreciate it." Kevin: "Yeah. Well, it didn't work, did it?
Val: "You got a good heart bro, just take the compliment."

It is made by women, for women. A story of middle school days and the icks and warmth of youth. The cast is so talented, and each episode has a bit of angst, comedy, and the raw emotion packed into it. Loved how one second you would be on the verge of crying and the next laughing. Captured the awkwardness and uncomfortable setting of growing up as a girl and person of color. Hands down a beautiful experience from start to finish.
