I really don't understand the very low IMDb rating here. While I will admit that the screenplay could have been better, it was still a very good movie. The storyline was excellent, and it was a really edge of your seat psychological thriller. With slightly better directing and screenplay this would have been much better. But I still enjoyed it, personally.
The acting was very good, especially from Alice Evans. I found her to be quite intoxicating and very believable. She really added to the romantic aspect of this movie.
Not sure what other viewers were expecting, but I think this deserves over five stars rather than the abysmal rating wecurrently see on IMDb. I've watched movies which were rated higher than this on IMDb, which I didn't think were as good as this movie.
It just goes to show you that sometimes your own personal preference will dictate your liking towards a movie. This movie is a perfect example of a low IMDb rating, where the movie is actually much better than you would expect.

Generally speaking, I thought this was a really great series. The story lines I particularly enjoyed were those of the Dutton family and Spencer over in Africa.
As for the retelling of the Indian residential schools, I found it a little over the top. First of all, none of the people who produced this were there. The depictions of brutal violence and by the nuns and even the indigenous woman are all fabricated. How do we even know that this kind of stuff happened in reality? We don't, it's all hypothetical. I don't like it in particular, because people who watch this will get a very poor impression of Christians, as this series seems to do a lovely job of portraying Catholics as ruthless swine, which is sure to stoke the bitterness in those who hate generally religion and Christians in particular. And to top it off, they say that Canada was even worse? According to what facts I wonder.
