If you can believe it, I wish I had seen the Netfilx adaptation first, and then seen the series!
Yes, the Netflix adaption is great.
And I say I should have watched the series first because the book is about how generations of a family experience cyclical problems and how history repeats itself, and unfortunately for me, Marquez accomplished that by having subsequent generations of the Buendia family getting the names of their parents and grandparents. With so many similar names I had extreme trouble keeping the characters separate in my head.
Netflix has not just given different actors the roles of the different generations, but all the actors are superb. I plan to re-read the book now that I can keep the characters distinct not just by look but by extremely well acted personalities.
HIGHLY recommended.

Good news and bad news...
First, hats off to the team that tracked down the archive footage, restored and colorized it. Some of the best visuals associated with WWI and WW2 I've ever seen. Brilliant work!
But next, a HUGE thumbs down to the writers of this mess! Tell the story, would you? Incessantly jumping 20, 30 even 40 years back and forth during storytelling is unnecessary, distracting and utterly confusing. I don't know who signed off on this poor excuse for a script.
So guys, try watching an episode of A&E Biography. They'll show you how to tell a compelling story...LINEARLY...
