I fail to understand why this perfect romcom only got a 5.4 rating while Lopez's recent very cheezy, raunchy 'marry me' thing managed to garner 6.1.
This rom com had everything - a realistic story line, a great cast - people you just wanted to see more of. I hoped there would be a MIM 2.
One of the best things in the story line was the way the lead character, Marissa would question or give Fiennes politician character information about the real world - and you knew that she could be a great help to him as his literal running mate - that together, they could affect real changes in impoverished housing, etc - all because of her personal & real insight. That's why a MIM sequel would be so great.
I especially like Marissa Matrone who played the best friend & maid Stephanie, and the actress Sharon Wilkins who played one of the other maids, and the actor Lou Ferguson who played the security cam guy, . I just wanted more of their characters.
I'm also a huge fan of the late Bob Hoskins - love him in everything he's done.
Also, the soundtrack for Maid In Manhatten was fantastic.
It's a clean movie too. No cussing or raunch.
If you like romcoms, this is a good one to choose. I have it on DVD - watch it at least once a year.

I won't go into the story outline since many reviewers have already done so.
I want to address the length of the movie bc so many have complained about it.
Certainly if you're a movie lover you understand there are valid reasons for every single second of story & film shown.
The point is:
The long, drawn-out movie/pace was intentional - intended to make you, the viewer realize & feel only a sense of how long this travesty went on for the Osage people . . .
So you endured about 3.5 hours??
These people endured about 13 years of uninvestigated deaths.
Maybe rewatch it with that in mind.
Other observations:
* Very good historic, epic film preserving some historical facts & relating a story that needed to be shared visially. Wonderful cast, production, & direction. Also surprised to see a number of very good, under-used actors here who fit their parts perfectly.
* I liked the funky 'silent' picture intro, & at the end - the on-stage old time, radio 'play' narration - always fun to see how they did sound affects back then.
* Throughout the movie, there were a few realistically portrayed comical (slightly comical) moments, & also realistically portrayed era/personality types saying/doing ludicrous things, which actually added the correct realistic contrast to this tragic story.
* I'd like to re-watcb the movie with captions bc a few times the dialogue was muttered, or hard to understand. Also, some but not all the Indian language is captioned - altho I could deduce the gist of what was being said, I still like any different language to be captioned.
* The book-read is now on my list of things to do after retirement.
* Just as an aside, I thought DiCaprio was rockin' a little Karl Childers (Sling Blade) a few times.
