Dunkirk may not be the greatest war film ever made, as against to popular opinion where Paths of Glory, Saving Private Ryan and Platoon might be the stronger contenders. It is not the best of Nolan the story-teller as Inception and Dark Knight will always remain the best. Dunkirk is a whole another beast from the world of cinema. It is messy, chaotic and sometimes incomprehensible, yet a beautiful jumble of visuals. This is the masterpiece of Nolan the director.
The evacuation of Dunkirk has always been portrayed as the aftermath of the blunder of Allied forces in France. For Great Britain, it was a moment of survival and resistance that helped them to swing back against the Nazis while for the French it was a humiliating instance of defeat and betrayal from its allies. Christopher Nolan, whose every other movie was either adapted screenplays or original ones, Dunkirk marks the first biopic and thanks to him, the vital stand of Dunkirk will be remembered by the modern generation once again.
One should not buy his/her tickets in the hopes of enjoying yet another Hacksaw Ridge or Fury. Dunkirk is about survival with fewer bullets and blood and it is made by one of the greatest living movie makers of our generation. Prepare to be immersed into the crucial hours of the soldiers on the beaches, the pilots of the Spitfires on the sky and the civilians on their rescue yachts.
On the downside, if you are so much into that, Dunkirk has no memorable characters on its fold, except for Mark Rylance and Fionn Whitehead. Strong character developments were always been Nolan's signature and one might miss such a quality in Dunkirk. Still, it is passable since what he has prepared is beyond words...

Wow, how do I describe this film? Miyazaki meets Disney? One of the most beautifully animated movie? I wholeheartedly praise the creators for crafting such a wonderful piece of art. This fresh take on Samurai legend is strong in narration and emotions, and entertainingly funny at the same time. Travis Knight weaves this one in such a fashion that one can only complete the movie with tears trailing down their cheeks. Kubo and the Two Strings is a stroke of genius that hides under a simple story line.
It's a whole new quest in a whole new world with a whole new, soulful characters. I strongly believe characterization is an important aspect of movie making. Even with a weak script, you can create an engaging film, if your characters are interesting with traits that goes beyond spectrum. I've also seen movies with strong content fails due to the lack of strong characters. Kubo and the Two Strings had a predictable story, yet a strong screenplay and it is rich with well-structured characters. Beatle and Monkey are the best side-kicks, until they turned out to be more than side-kicks, since R2-D2 and C3PO. Theron and McConaughey really help to solidify their existence with their voices. And, boy-o-boy the pieces of dialogues that are in this one! Simply brilliant.
Last but not least, the end credit song "while my guitar gently weeps" beautifully performed by Regina Spektor, is a fitting sent off to a heart-touching emotional trip. Kubo and the Two Strings is so far the best movie I've seen this year because it's rich in so many aspects. One must even can argue about the psychological aspects that the movie deals with and how it can touch our hearts and feelings...

The story, or incident to be precise, of Spotlight was an ideal material for a documentary. It follows through the news team and their work which eventually cracked open a behemoth of conspiracy under the Christian monarchy. With a formidable cast and an eventful script, Spotlight became an instant cinematic classic, bagging the best picture Oscar this year. It also shows how strong Micheal Keaton's comeback is, as he is now part of two consecutive best picture winners.
There was a time when there were no supreme force in the western world other that Christianity. They took the holy book as the eternal truth and crushed everyone who opposed the idea. They burned Bruno alive for suggesting a vast, infinite universe. They almost killed Galileo for his scientific curiosity. Now, they protected pedophile priests from law, fearing that it will affect their reputation, and god, it happened worldwide, including Ollur!!! Now that was a shocker.
Spotlight gained its place under spotlight due to this shock value, other than anything else it forwards. When one scrutinize it, it is evident that Spotlight is a procedural story happening inside a newspaper. Much like All the Presidents Man, that matter it holds makes it noteworthy. The courage it shown to put it in film shows the dedication of the whole cast and crew and the accolades were in fact for that courage...
