I guess they saw the rough cut. My family and I saw Naked Gun and we found it mostly boring and unnecessary. A lot of jokes fell flat and the characters weren't given much to do. Some of the dialogue was funny, but Liam Neeson was way too serious and forced and so was the visual humor. It didn't spoof any movies. The theme song was only at the end credits. The supporting characters weren't given much to do and the pacing was very slow.
I didn't laugh at anything in the movie and found the two leads desperately forced and unfunny with a predictable story. The best written characters were some of the supporting ones. The writing was expected and lazy, much like the lead character Molly (Brittan Murphy). Dakota Fanning's character wasn't any better by acting overly serious and bossy as if we're supposed to laugh. How could Molly survive living without her parents since she was 8 years old and we don't know much about Ray's parents either. There was a cute scene where Molly was imagining taking Ray to the amusement park before they arrived.
