One of the greatest films of all time. Every aspect is meticulously crafted and every subtle emotional nuance hits like a gut-punch. One of the most beautiful and haunting love stories ever filmed. Tony Leung might be my favourite actor. Maggie Cheung is incendiary. The musical themes are flawless and unforgettable. Wong Kar Wai's shots are like walking through a dream or a painting. You feel everything they feel. You can almost smell the perfumes of the characters as they pass each other on the stairs. The sexual tension is as thick as a mountain. Every line of dialogue is loaded with emotional subtext that always lingers beneath the surface. Shots of someone's hands fidgeting say more than some other films' entire scripts. Masterpiece doesn't even come close. It's pure art.

One of my favourite films from my childhood that I still LOVE today. A film that defies pandering, demographics and nostalgia bait and is simply pure heart, absolute cinema gold. A mesmerizing mix of cartoons and live-action. An insane mix of slapstick comedy and hard boiled film noir. It's got a fantastic character arc about alcoholism. It's got a serious murder mystery and bloody on-screen violence. It's got raunchy jokes. It's got all of your favourite characters from both Disney and Warner Bros. It has amazingly inventive and sometimes terrifying action setpieces that you will never forget. It's a wonderful period piece with incredible props, sets and costumes. It's a heartfelt ode to the golden age of cartoons in Hollywood. Bob Hoskins is so wonderful. Eddie finally learns to love Toons again. This movie means so much to me as a fan of cinema, of cartoons, of film history, that I can't say enough good things about it. They will never make a film like this ever again.

Mickey 17 is a film worth seeing if you're a fan of the people involved. Pattinson's performance is great, Bong's direction is good and the film is funny and quirky. Frequently bonkers. I was entertained for the most part even though it wasn't super action-packed. But it did leave a bit of a bad taste in my mouth when it was over. The character and story writing is poor. There's way too much going on and almost none of it is developed to its potential. How are the Creepers psychically linked? Why are the two Mickeys so different? How is sex outlawed on the ship and yet it's never mentioned as a problem that Mickey and his girlfriend are getting it on? What does she see in him? They fall for each other before even speaking which I always hate. Why the raw meat obsession? What the heck was with the final scene with Toni Colette? What was the point of the evil loan shark plot? The space drugs? The 'pure white planet' idea supported by all the ethnic minorities on the ship? This thing needed a final rewrite as it's an extremely shaggy dog. I didn't care for the characters or story beats. And Mark Ruffalo's performance is way over the top. There's a scene where someone calls him a dumbass for a minute straight which does not work at all. Check it out if interested but don't expect a masterpiece.
