1979 would mark the staple beginning for serious alien sci-fi movies. Its shocking realism, that was developed by special effects master Stan Winston, combined with director Ridley Scott, created something that will last forever.
This movie took the basic plot of two earlier movies, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and It! The Terror From Beyond Space. However Alien succeeded in making you believe that it was real. Jerry Goldsmith could compose for space like no other. Hearing the score from the first note made you feel like you were in deep space. This particular combination of talent took the world by storm.
For me, this was the start of great sci-fi.

Godzilla vs. Megalon was one of the DUMBEST Toho movies in the 1970's. The way they did the monsters in this movie looked embarrassing like Jet Jaguar for an example. By the end of this film, the song called "Jet Jaguar" was worse than the whole soundtrack and it should not have been part of the movie. The fight scenes in this film were so silly. It didn't feel like they were fighting, they looked more like kids playing with each other in costumes. The human scenes were as bad as the monster scenes. Godzilla's face really looked like a monkey instead of a dinosaur face, like it should have. The story was horrible in many ways. This movie didn't really feel like a Godzilla movie at all.
As we all know, Godzilla movies are based on nuclear fission because he was created by it. And through all his movies, he is always trying to get across that all nuclear reactors are too dangerous for man to handle. But the Biollante story crosses into some type of karmic belief, in this case were the scientist's daughter dies and comes back as a flower. For me this is far removed for any Godzilla story as it could possibly get. Originally it was released in Japan and came to US in 1992. The soundtrack in this movie sounded cheesy and combined with a story line that is almost nonexistent makes for the most unusual Godzilla story. In 2012, it came out on blue-ray that seems to be readily found. I don't recommend it, but as a Godzilla fan, I had to take a chance and see it.
