Granted the realism is there, the bloodiness, grit and horror of firefights make you the audience curl into a fetal position to watch the rest of it.
I admit I liked Garland's CIVIL WAR and gave it a higher rating than this (8) but that had a story, a plot and more fleshed out characters to invest in. Here, you simply have a commandeering of a civilian house in the middle of the night, the entire group is ambushed and the rescue part. Nothing Else to explore.
The sound is on par and expected of a war movie, so are the effects and setpieces (where did they film this??) but you know after all that screaming, shooting and chaos, what I actually summarized from all this was that YES, American Troops will continue to be hated across countries where they are involved in conflicts, for whatever reason.
In this film, your troops take over a civilian house, hold the family hostage and leave them with nothing left but ruins and a possibly in harms way and be punished for "accomodating" your troops.
This particular method used in the film simply LEFT A BAD TASTE IN THE MOUTH especially during times of conflict in the real world where social media picks up and amplifies BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY.
Although I kind of liked this movie, but that final scene of Abandonment really was off-putting and appaling to see. That one single final scene simply ruined my positive sentiment of this title. I am sure I am not the only one feeling this way after seeing it.
No, this is nowhere near Saving Private Ryan or Blackhawk Down and is definitely not rewatchable as those titles.

I have jist completed episode 1 and 2 and for the most part, this is a family drama with so much talking especially between the sibling and in a back n fodth manor between past and present.
If episode 3 is more of the same, i am gonna skip the remaining episodes.
All these reviews praising it a "the perfect horror flick" must be paid netflix shills or i am seeing an entirely different ssries with the same actors and same title
Give me a break...
How can you simply proceed with just dialogue and a very rare sprinkle of nump scares triggered by its ambient music dominated by squeels and shrieks of violins or the sort.
If this is your idea of horror, I may have to skip the entire Mike Flanaghan series that come after this title.

An interesting take on the life of an illegal immigrant and the various challenges associated - at least that was how I felt on the first few episodes of season 1.
Now that I am on Episode 7 of season 3, like many who have reviewed here, I too have found the lead to be annoying and should be killed already. Everything she touches either dies or becomes tainted. A very egotistical human being that only wants her needs to be met no matter the consequences to others (althought crying in regret does become her ussual goto emotion afterwards).
A supposedly brilliant surgeon from her own country, she fails to show intellect in every decision made from S01. Is this intentional in writing or just bad writing overall?
Arman is basically the only likeable person here and unfortunately the actor passed away in 2024 so his character was written off by episode 7 of S03.
From an intense crime-drama to a soapy telenovela, that is what I am witnessing unfold before my eyes, and to think that another season is still to be made just boggles the mind.
Did they change the creative team halfway?
You have got to be delluded if you gave this one anything above 4 stars (overall rating)
