I know, I know, it's a matter of taste, but... come on! Really? He has one facial expression and one tone of voice the entire movie! He was literally dead inside. How is that not proof that he is a terrible actor? He and his laughable spider friend whispered all the time, with pauses between the words. Boring as hell!
The story is supposed to be in the future (obviously), but the space craft and everything in it, all the instruments, devices, etc., look like made in the 1970s. And then... Czech Republic? Sorry, but it's a very small country. They don't have the money (and technology) for a space mission like that, and I don't think that will change in the near future.
It's not a science fiction. It's an esoteric crap film, overly sentimental, painful to watch. If you suffer from insomnia, you must watch this movie!

Maybe a bit too long, maybe too many interviews and maybe a little bit disorganized. Nonetheless, very interesting (and touching). If you are a fan of Brazilian "jazz" (bossa nova) or quality music in general, this movie is a must. The animation is well made, although a bit on the simple side. One is tempted to think it's because of money: a more natural animation would have been way more expensive. But, maybe, this simple style does lend the movie a charm, and is probably trying to give the viewer a feeling of the 1960s/1970s, the way (some) illustrations used to look like back then.
Some viewers don't know that all Latin American dictatorships of the 1960s and 1970s were endorsed (and even financially supported) by the United States, which even sent CIA agents to train their police forces in the "art" of torturing. It makes one think about how hypocritical US governments can be.

Most Austrian contemporary movies are bad. Austria is famous for classical music and gave the world important modern painters, even Actionism artists, but most of its movies made after the Second World War are forgettable, especially comedies. (The serious movies are all depressing.)
Muttertag is an extremely low-level type of "humor", similar to cheap Italian comedies, only much worse. Every single character and situation is the cheapest possible overdrawn caricature. If your taste is intelligent, witty comedy, you'll hate Muttertag, unless you are 13 years old. It's the type of comedy Austrians are used to, so it's no surprise they adore this movie. Hence, the high ratings.
PS: I live in Austria.
