Lets look at some of the mainstream movies out today...like "Guess Who" was a hot mess....but the extra scenes in the DVD edition gave the movie more realism...too bad they edited them out! A non mainstream movie entitled "The Secret Laughter of Women" starring Nia Long and Collin Firth (Mr. Darcy from BBC's adaptation of Jane Austen's "Pride & Predujice" and Bridget Jones)...hes a cutie! was a very good movie set in France with a Nigerian community...another good one...different views but same.
So "Something New" offers plenty of realism without shoving it down your throat and feeling claustrophobic...the chemistry was very real and the love scenes were hot and tasteful at the same time...and the fact that they covered a topic that isn't explored enough (the Black Middle/Upper Class) was refreshing....
Hollywood needs to wake up....well if this films makes $$$$$...more movies like this will be a comin.

I love Nia Long...and love Collin Firth. So I was very happy to see that they were in a movie together. Overall I thought the concept was good and the little boy very endearing.
I thought the movie was choppy at times but I think that was primarily due to poor editing...but the acting was solid and believable. The chemistry between the two main characters was understated but passionate.
I liked the differing cultures at work, the locale was so Belle and the colors were so vibrant from the Nigeran dress I only wished that this film was released here in the states...I had to get a poor copy from Ebay!

"makes an admirable move into a ghetto"-Dan from Boston
Dan...I am a avid PF watcher and it doesn't appear that they live in
a "ghetto". In fact the neighborhood looks middle class and the
multicultural cast appear to be both working class and white collar
combined (Penny's mom is a vet and dad owns a company).I just wanted to
address that previous statement, but we do both agree that its a fun
and enlightening show (e.g the episode about segregation)and the life lessons that the show pushes through (communication, respect, honesty, family values) are wonderful... I hope that Disney keeps this one around for some time!!!
