This movie piqued my interest because it was filmed locally in the Portland, Oregon area, shortly before we became known as the Dumpster Fire Capital of the country.
Right off the bat, let me talk about the high point of the show: The Polar King diner in Gresham. About halfway through, this personal favorite spot is the setting for a nice scene. I have faithfully held down a seat in those same booths. Via a series of grunts and nods, I have grudgingly been accepted into the tribe of cranky old men that partake of breakfast there. And if you're lucky enough to have Kim as your server, be sure to tip her well. There aren't enough words to describe how wonderful she is. On the breakfast menu, order #16 (it doesn't exist) so she knows I sent you.
But back to the movie. I will say the cinematography was very nice, and did not have a low budget feel. That's two nice things so far, which is all I've got. The story itself was kinda slow and plodding. It's as if we were watching a primer on how NOT to raise children. Maybe this would be good to show in high school, so you can see how bad life choices have consequences down the road.

Do yourself a big favor and skip the trailer. This is a fairly dark movie but I suspect the marketing department didn't quite know how to present it. So they put the lighter/funnier moments in the trailer and turned it loose, hoping for the best.
The movie itself was quite intriguing. A wide assortment of characters, of varying moral character, end up on a slippery downward slope of their own doing.
Excellent cinematography with good acting all around. Tim Blake Nelson? What can I say? I'd watch him read the phone book and he was superb as a slimeball.
Definitely worth watching, just be aware the trailer painted something a bit lighter.
