We enjoyed this so much! The writing was excellent, the cast fantastic and the attention to period detail was too notch.
I've read some negative reviews and all I can say is that perhaps if you don't have a little knowledge of post war British history, you find some of references pass you by.
That said, we got the references and thoroughly enjoyed the whole series.
Mark Gatiss and Polly Walker make a wonderful couple in Gabriel and Trottie Book, the detective duo, with a neat turn of phrase and a penchant for a cup tea and a bedtime read. They are ably assisted by Nora and Jack.
The overarching storyline is deeply touching, but there are nice touches of gentle, sometimes waspish humour in there too.
Roll on season two - this season did not disappoint.
