Ok, understand that I love dinosaurs. I have like thirty dino T shirts, I have a life sized dino in my yard, I watch even the crappy dino movies. You know what I mean - lots of them out there, where they bought dino-CGI gifs and plugged them in when needed. If you pay attention, you can see the same dino action reused throughout the film, especially the one with the T Rex charging straight at you.
But while Rebirth has pretty good dino CGI, everything else about it felt like those crappy other ones with plug-in dinosaurs. Shallow writing, bad pacing, non-believable motivations, and so forth.
And I found myself playing a little game. You can match all the principle characters to the ones in JP1. This guy here is Dr. Grant, that one is Ellie, that one is Malcom - you get the picture. Best thing in the whole film is the little dinosaur I dubbed Groot-a-saurus. Just there to go "awww" over.
I don't regret watching it. As I said, I watch even the crappy dino movies.

Good enough writing, fun to watch, acting is better than many disaster films I've seen.
The special effects are pretty good, actually - pieces of comet debris falling from the sky leaving nice trails, nearby comets falling faster than the larger ones falling at a distance - it looks pretty real.
I don't expect too much from disaster films, I just want to forget about the world going insane in real life. I might even watch this again in a year or two.
But I do have one complaint. I don't know who gets the blame, but the shaky-cam technique is WAY over-used. I know it's an easy way to drum up excitement, and it makes sense if you're in a fight scene or if you're in the crowd fleeing the falling debris, but when you're watching a newscast about it in a living room? Seriously??

I love the content, as will anybody who loves the film.
But they really need to remix the audio, and dial the music back. Say, about 40%. Until then, be sure to turn on the closed captions.
