I don't know if i can summarize this movie's plot because as far as i can tell, there isn't one. Basically we're in 15th century Russia, so there's lots of poverty, violence, ignorance and disease. We see much human cruelty toward both other humans and innocent animals.
Also the main characters (painters and sculptors) pontificate a lot about God, Jesus, the Bible, etc. They are mostly bitter.
This is my fifth Tarkovsky film out of the seven. It's black and white, and over three hours long. Only two more to go, and I'm still wondering what on Earth people see in this man's pretentious and overwhelmingly boring work.
