This film does in many ways, the true justice to the character of the real Richard Nixon, what concerned many was the fact that the story was written by Oliver Stone, a man famous for 'fictionalizing' certain parts of his films.

Anybody who ever felt for Nixon would truly enjoy what comes out in this film. Stone goes deep into the life of Nixon, his upbringing, love for his wife and daughters and his paralyzing fear of defeat.

Stone Portrays Nixon as a fellow who was mediocre at best at pretty much everything, he never really stood out other than the fact that he was always there. lost nearly every election of his life, and when he finally won one, he was in the fear of losing the next one. The film also looks deep into his helplessness as he learns that as the president he has been reduced to a figurehead, and that the agencies now control the country, his fear for his life (see JFK assassination) is what makes him keep giving in to it all until he becomes something of a Darth Vader.

I love the editing on this film, and the score is beautiful, the first 20 minutes is absolutely haunting. I wonder why this film only got 4 Oscar nominations when there was room for so many more in a film with so many great performances and editing.

I don't know why people like to bash this movie, it is a nice little remake of the 1960 classic "the apartment" where in a businessman sells out to his bosses so they can use his apartments to have affairs with other women, but when one attempts suicide in his house, it happens to be the one he falls in love with, the same story is evident here, Biggs plays the role well, and Suvari could play Shirley MacLaine in future remakes, the same with Kinnear and MacMurray, this could become one of those films that could get young people involved into the classics.

I think woody allen was looking for a way out of the limelight when he made this movie, he co-wrote the screenplay (Allen rarely co-writes, and when he does it is usually with Mickey Rose or Marshall Brickman), He stayed out of the acting, instead passing the lead onto John Cusack, tossed in a great cast and made an awesome flick, we hate Cheech (Palmenteri) at first, but we grow to love him, and we always hate jennifer Tilly, which made her a great character, too bad "Bullets" Was up agaist such tuff competition in '94, snagging only 1 oscar, when Chazz and Allen could have easily won had the film been released in '93 or '95, bad timing for woody, but, he doesn't really do it for the awards anyway
