I re-watched this in preparation for watching the abomination that is the live-action remake and I am SO glad I did. It's such a treasure.
The cast are all fantastic, the animation is gorgeous, the soundtrack is all killer, and even the story - as much of a cliché as it is - is still as powerful as it was back in 2002: family is important to us all whether that's the family we're born into (as long as they love and support us back as in the case of Lilo & Nani) or the family we choose (as in the case of Lilo & Stitch)for ourselves.
The fact that this movie is still accessible and is STILL as good as ever is reason alone for why the remake should never have been made.

It's bland, boring, and soulless. There is no reason for it to exist other than an attempt at pulling in more money and although it apparently did well at that in cinemas, I don't think it'll have the enduring appeal of the original as long as the original is still accessible.
Maia Kealoha and Sydney Elizebeth Agudong are decent in their roles, though, and *almost* save the film from being forgettable, while having Tia Carrere and Jason Scott Lee pop in for small roles is a nice nod to the original movie, but everything else falls completely flat. As good as he is elsewhere, Courtney B Vance is no Ving Rhames, Jumba & Pleakley are terrible, Nani willingly giving up Lilo sucks (even if it IS for a good reason), and there's NO GANTU!!
It's arguably the best live-action remake Disney have made, but even that's not as good as it sounds because the rest of them have been horrendous.

A surprisingly enjoyable show once they dropped the toilet & suppository fetishes.
Despite it being 95% fan service and 5% actual story, it's a pretty well written show with at least one character that each of us could relate to, and then of course there's the fan service. I feel sorry for anyone who had to watch this on Crunchyroll or anywhere else that likes to overly censor everything.
