Normally I'm all in for a Statham movie, willing to suspend disbelief for 100 minutes... but this is just too much. Not the plot. That's fine, genereic, done better in Taken... but the direction! The characters are dumb, annoying beyond belief, and just say and do really stupid things all the time... the female villain only yells and screams at people, at random. If this was real, her partner would have shot her years ago. Towards the end, Jenny, the kidnapped girl, shows a bravado that is completely unearned. And don't get me started in the pure cliché of every russian character in the movie. Wow. It's like the 80's called, and they want their Chuck Norris movies back!
On the surface, the plot sounds great.
I could see so many political aspects of a similar crisis play out. I could see a wide variety of both science and science fiction elements that eould have been spellbinding to see incorporated into this story.
I have no clue what the writer/director wanted to to say or, said for that matter. This is the most terrible, equally pretentious and pointless film I have ever seen. And I saw the new Joker film!
It's like if the authors of daytime soapdramas like Bold and the Beautiful made an environmental sci-fi movie. Imagine the complete lack of any scientific realism, and the addition of an excessive amount of pointless conversation about feelings the viewer cares nothing about, because the movie doesn't get us invested in the characters.

I couldn't get past the first episode. I read tje book, but a while ago. Loved it. Very slow, interesting, a mystery unravelling.
I suppose the show is going for the same, but it's awful. Can't put my finger on it. I don't the actor in the lead. He's not bad, I just don't like him. Bad for the part. Should have gotten a more selfdepricating, less self-satisfied actor.
It's just so 90's. The setting is cheap. The story is clicheed. The actors are 'hot', but they're not. It stinks of casting for looks, not the right one for the part. And the writing is just basic. If you're that bad at making up a story, why not just use the story from the damn book???
