Why all the howling? This short is visionary, clever and often humorous, particularly for viewers with nosy or easily spooked pets. It gets a bit repetitive at times, but the scene with the player piano and miniature orchestra more than compensates for that. The Mouse might have improved on it, but who knows? Watch and enjoy!
Others here call this episode "preachy" or "dated," but it's as applicable today as it was then. Masses of fools still believe they need to redistribute wealth to make things "fair." Passing a law that penalizes achievement or looting businesses because "they can afford it" reflects the same brain-dead mentality these three "hippies"showed. There's always mass hypocrisy behind such "noble" intentions. Friday and Gannon were spot-on with their opinions of the three kids and with the wisdom they shared with them. Check it out.
"Elmer Elf" comes to an outdated shoe shop and explains the role of capitalism and mass production to the shoemaker, who then agrees to use this knowledge to stay in business. Elmer advises the shoemaker to invest his profits back into the business instead of pocketing them for himself. (At the time, marginal income taxes in the United States were over 90% for those in the highest income tax bracket, strongly discouraging business owners from pocketing their profits.) This is not only a useful history lesson, but an accurate reminder that the best way to get ahead in life is to rely on yourself, not government handouts borne of redistributed wealth. People like Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk did so and created millions of jobs. The makers of this 'toon would be amused and/or saddened to see these foolish, misguided reactions.
