Ichi The Killer is the sort of Film that you enjoy even more when you watch it more than once, It will get better and better when you watch it more often ,there are here and there some little details that you didn't notice before. Despite this film is Violent, Gory , Wild , Bizarre and with Dark humor there is a strange Melancholic Undertone in this Film which makes it really unique. The Characters are Interesting at the same time crazy and the overall atmosphere in this film is gloomy, many funny and bizarre quotes in this film that stick in your mind. I also really liked the Soundtrack and the main theme from the Boredoms. I would say Ichi - The Killer (koroshiya 1) has a little cult following. Even today (2025) this film is banned in some countries. Ichi The Killer is one of the best Miike Films and Tadanobu Asano who played kakihara very well is a very interesting and versatile actor definitely one of the most Interesting Actors in asia ( Last Life in the Universe is great and there is a little Ichi The Killer relation in that film) and recently he gets more popular. Overall like many said here Ichi - The Killer is a wild bizarre Trip that Horror, Thriller and Fans of extreme cinema really should watch.

I expected a bad film after reading so many negative reviews. I was surprised, the Storyline is well written and has suspense with neo noir elements. Yes the budget wasn't high but this film looks decent and the action scenes were absolutely ok, sure it could be more Action, action fans expect a lot action in a van damme film. Compared to van dammes last two films The Last Mercenary and We Die Young this was a positive increase. The Film takes place 80% at Night which gives the film a cool vibe. There is also many well known B-Film Actors in supporting roles and cameos (like Kristanna Loken , Zack Ward,Spencer Breslin and many more) Overall a decent Action Thriller, good to watch.

I heard a few thing about this Film but I never had the opportunity to watch The Substitute. I was very pleasantly surprised. The Storytelling was quite Interesting and Suspenseful and for a 90s Action Film unusual. The First half the film is more a crime thriller with focus on the plot and the characters. Tom Berenger did a great Lead performance in this film, he was never a really big star or even Action Star but he was completely satisfying in this film with his acting as a tough mercenary. The Final Showdown was a really Highlight with many Shootouts and great Action and Explosions. Overall The Substitute is a 90s Action Highlight who deserves more praise and credit.
