This deserves 9 stars. I'd have given 10 except for the few holes, like when do they feed the poor horses. Little things like that. I watch a movie with a pretty critical eye. But overall this is an excellent film, very gritty, dark and true to how rough things were. Dinklage is a genius no matter what he plays, and Juliette Lewis was so creepy and psychotic true to her incredible talent. I think this is one of her best performances. Supporting talent was excellent as well.
I read one reviewer who criticized the supporting actress having an afro. I had to laugh. Doesn't matter what era, African American hair is usually an afro when worn naturally.
Great movie. A definite must watch if you want a hard core Western with stellar actors. I'll watch it again.
