A great cartoon. The unpredictable set-up (Daffy backs Elmer through the marsh up into a boxing ring!) begins a hilarious pro-duck boxing match. Elmer is of course, completely over-matched and clueless (but surprisingly gets back and Daffy and Co. at the end), and Daffy has a funny line to the audience-"Ain't he a dope?". The referee is a strong, (literally) well-rounded character, too. But the best line might be from Laramor the dog, "There's something screwy about this fight, or my name isn't Laramor...and it isn't". I know that they can't have them all on the Golden Collection, but this, among other early 40s' shorts should have been included and hopefully will be available soon on DVD.
Well, to be fair to the other reviews of this short, the hunter is basically Elmer, except black. But to counter most of the reviews, it not one of the best ones, or one that is a must have. I do think that it is an interesting short to watch, considering the time period in which it was made. Although some would disagree, I don't view this short as portraying the hunter dumb BECAUSE he is black, but it does stereotype him by the accentuated lips and of course, the craps game at the end. A good piece to watch for study, but not for entertainment.
This movie starts out great, especially the scenes with Brendan in Mexico, but turns for the worse once his personality is fully revealed. A bizarre film that is a drama bookended by comedy. Wiest does her part very well, and "The Boss" is his jerk self. Not enough baseball scenes. It's a like a sports-themed "The Cable Guy", in that it's supposed to be funny, but Fraser is downright psychotic in some scenes. It of course wraps it up too quickly in the end. A dream World Series matchup though; Yankees-Cardinals.
