Maika and Nic Cage both need awards for this. She's always been a good actress in my opinion, but she takes this one somewhere else and I'm with her along the way. As soon as the movie started and we see the first quick glimpse of the suspected seriel killer, I flinched in my chair because the tone is so correct. Nic Cage is just excellent but I will say, it's not everyone's cup of tea because he fully emerses himself into the roll which I understand some people find it hard to digest but appreciating the art and the story telling, I really enjoyed this movie for everything it was giving. I'd love to see a film set before this one to learn even more about his character. Loved it!
My expectations vs my reality. I saw the trailer, thought it looked cool as I like horror and seriel killer themes in movies. I went to the cinema not expecting too much, but just a new movie for a Friday night. As soon as the movie started I was gripped, but little did I know how much more the movie was going to unfold with it's surprises. I was literally slapped around the face by this movie and felt a buzz when leaving because of how it did not follow any usual Hollywood blueprint, it had its own template and it's own tricks. I can't really explain to the "why" but the movie gave me a Pulp Fiction vibe. I'm not sure if it was watching it in a jumbled time line or just because it was crazily creative and thought out. I did not think much of Willa before this movie but after watching this performance, I hope she gets all the awards. Her talent is raw and you cannot escape it. And Kyle Gallner is always fabulous!
I really enjoyed this movie and particularly the cinematography stood out and generally a stronger story than the first smile movie but wait, let's first highlight Naomi Scott. As soon as she hit the screen I felt her presence. I was zoned in to what she was saying and believed every word because her acting is quite enchanting. She can clearly act, sing and dance. When I later clicked that she was princess Jasmine in the live version, it all made sense! I hope to see her on our screens a lot more now that she's clearly proved she can do it all. This movie starts with a bang and ends with a bang. All the filler in-between is equally as captivating, even the potential predictable angles!
