School example of silent and not-so-obvious manipulating of the behaviour and preferences of everyday people. One would like to sit down and see some relaxing "political and public life" cabaret, instead seven "so-called" well-known humourists, publicists and media men sit around the table and converse really one-sided from the view of values; commenting news and articles. Not considering, that the way of humour they stand for is really vulgaric, it is a much more politically incorrect one, and they are even "untouchables" in a certain way as they are the "voice of masses", as they declare themselves. Sad thing, that this production can be successful in Hungary, but people with good manners and tastes consider this as the bottom of all media activity and ignore this series of trash.
I am a great fan of this film from a long time. Few movies had such an impact on me, than this wonderful tale. Tale about wisdom, love, friendship and bitter-sweet melancoly about TIME. Yes, it is, how we change, how could we change in flow of time? Nobody could do it, but on the screen it can turn to reality, that someone clearly sees his/her role in past. Time-levels are crossing each other in a stormy night in a director's mind, revealing long forgotten dreamscapes about his childhood, about his developement in friendship, love and life at all. The story is well known, so there's no point to recall it again. The ending is really fascinating, sad and something so delightful, that it couldn't be told better, and feelings could be deeply stormed. The story is a whole, telling us, makes us feel that although all went wrong in one hand, at the other everything is rewarded. That's the Oscar-winner one. Sooner i saw the director's cut version. Everybody, who liked the short version was upset about that one, telling us about vanishing and ruining the whole story with those added scenes. I can only admit, that anybody who really loves the international version will be very delighted by the director's cut. Why? 'Cause this one is the 'grown-up' version of the movie. The short ver. is much like a fairy tale with some perfect like, idealistic human characters with some feelings in one, or another side, but weaknesses are far away from then. The long ver. teaches us some very serious things about how human interacts with time and enlighten the whole story much sharper, giving us a feeling, that we are seeing a movie reminding us good old 'Cinema Paradiso' and it is damn good, anyway...I don't think, that either version is better. Not the question it is. The question from some point of view is that which one will teach and educate us better? It's your task, you have to decide it. See both versions (first the short one) and make your decision about your view of life. You won't be disappointed, either version you vote with your simpathy.
