Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from The Penguin, but it turned out to be pretty solid. It's a nice, gritty spin-off from The Batman, and surprisingly, they manage to make Oswald Cobblepot a lot more interesting than I thought he'd be.
The show does a good job of balancing dark humor with some genuine moments of tension. Cobblepot's rise in the criminal world is interesting to follow, and it doesn't get too bogged down in typical villain cliches. The pacing's decent, and while the show definitely leans into the whole "gritty Gotham" vibe, it's not over the top.
The actor playing Cobblepot does a great job, switching between being menacing and surprisingly relatable. You kinda end up rooting for him, even though you know he's not a good guy. The supporting cast is solid too, adding some depth to the story.
It's not groundbreaking TV, but if you're into mob drama with a bit of a comic book twist, The Penguin is definitely worth checking out. I'm curious to see where they go with it from here.

"Race" delivers a captivating and moving portrayal of Jesse Owens' extraordinary journey to Olympic glory. Stephan James shines as Owens, capturing the determination and grace of the legendary athlete. The film does an excellent job of depicting the challenges and obstacles Owens faced, both on and off the track, while also highlighting his unwavering spirit and resilience.
Director Stephen Hopkins masterfully weaves together the personal and historical contexts of Owens' story, emphasizing the importance of his achievements in the face of adversity. The supporting cast, including Jason Sudeikis and Jeremy Irons, adds depth and dimension to the narrative, further accentuating the impact of Owens' remarkable accomplishments.
While "Race" occasionally relies on familiar sports biopic tropes, its strong performances and compelling storytelling make it an engaging and inspiring cinematic experience. This film serves as a powerful tribute to Jesse Owens and a testament to the human spirit's ability to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
Highly recommended for fans of sports dramas and anyone seeking an uplifting and memorable tale of perseverance and triumph.
