Moana 2, realeased in December 2024 and directed by Jason Hand, David Derrick Jr and Dana Ledoux Miller, is one rollercoaster of a Disney film. Set in the heart of the Pacific Islands about two thousand years ago, it comes extremely close in quality and popularity to it's first movie.
The movie explores a girl named Moana as she sets out to explore the islands beyond Motonui in the hope of reconnecting her ancestors. When she realises she is in trouble, she sets out to break the curse of a power hungry god to reconnect her people and the anscestors, leading to one of the best Disney climaxes of the century.
This movie was SPLENDID, a true work of art. The CGI was so visually stunning and I absolutely loved the Pasifika theme following after the first movie. The climax was so brilliantly done that it seemed to shadow out the rest of the movie. The action scenes were INCREDIBLE, definetly something worth watching the movie for.
Unfortunately, almost all the songs seemed bland and original in comparison to the songs from the first movie, and I don't remember any of them after leaving the cinema compared to when I watched Moana at the cinema eight years ago and left singing five of the songs. Hei Hei and Pua feel as though they were forced to be in the movie for the Moana fans and you'll know it from the trailers, Moana has a sister who scarcely appears throughout the film and plays a brief, unimportant role. The plot seems to follow the same one as the original one, with any new characters feeling more like cameos. Most of the new characters were extremely annoying, only getting in the way of the other characters instead of helping.
All in all, a great movie that almost made me cry with some of the greatest visuals I've seen this year and certainly a worthy sequel, just wish it had been a little more different from the first with better songs and characters.

This movie has ACTUAL LAVA and it BURNS. The lava BURSTS forth from the TV screens that don't deserve to display such an ATROCITY of a CGI movie and absolutely ATTACKS the eyes of the innocent and unsuspecting audience. I have never in my entire life watched a group of four to twelve year olds SCREAM with more enjoyment in my soul while trying my hardest to ignore a 'movie' on my TV.
Don't get me wrong, the sharks are pretty cool... when you can only see their fins.
The protagonist is one to root for... when he's not facing the camera or dunking himself into chocolate or getting sung a lullaby.
Sharkboy and Lavagirl themselves are two characters to root for... The lava one has identity issues and the shark one wants to punch everything that moves or bite it in half.
Do yourself a favour and DON'T watch this movie. It abuses the glory of CGI animation in every possible way and literally burns the eyeballs.
