the trailer looked interesting so I rented this DVD from Blockbuster b/c I'm unemployed w/ time to kill(npi), and there are hot chicks(my favorite was Laurel and she's only in the brief opening segment). I wasn't completely disappointed - the catfight at the rich kid's party that went down while the host dealt w/ a hairy kid(a socialist/marxist no doubt) who flushed frozen burritos down the toilet was entertaining.
The first explanation given for new kid in town Molly's hallucinations and nosebleed episodes are provided by the family MD (was he a satanist[?],god only knows in this movie)and is diagnosed as a "nasal hemangioma" - I think I had one of those once,...tho my hallucinations were probably from ingesting copious amts of pills to deal w/ the intense sinus headaches.
As the background story unravels involving Molly's mother who is incarcerated at a mental health facility b/c she tried to "save" Molly w/ a pair of scissors planted in her chest,we begin to see there may be an unholy alliance from the past involving Molly's once desperate parents ....;

I selected this film from the Blockbuster new release shelf b/c I like foreign films and well crafted horror/suspense movies.Catherine Deneuve was very impressive as mother Laura's friend Sybille,a lady who is disarming yet distant,she is easy to picture as quite comfortable strolling a white beach on a winter morning."the Stone Council" is effective in it's climax,timing,and presentation.I would recommend to fans of older films of the genre such as "Rosemary's Baby" and the original "the Wicker Man".Monica Bellucci deserves honorable mention for her portrayal of a mother who won't be stopped from saving her adopted son Liu from his kidnappers,who believe their ancient sorcery will make them immortal (come on you creeps - who really wants to live forever....?)
President George W. didn't invent war and war is never purty,..tho some of the scenes in this Oliver Stone movie might remind you of another flick called "Starship Troopers". I liked Stone's "Nixon" & "the Doors" and this film is interesting and contains some good performances but how does anyone know what happens behind closed doors? I feel like this release was rushed to public view before the blame Bush syndrome has had time to wear off. The movie focuses mostly on the Iraq engagement and the no WMD's(ask a Kurd or a Kuwaiti citizen if Saddam represented a threat....).There is no mention at all of the swift success of American forces in Afghanistan - and why am I not surprised?
