There are few Hollywood "grails" holier than creating a film sequel that artistically surpasses the original. Ridley Scott had his shot with "Gladiator II" and fell short...waaaaay short. I don't think I've ever before seen a film where every single actor seemed uneasy and uncomfortable in the skin of their character (perhaps none more so than Denzel Washington). I get the sense that the specter of the original "Gladiator" hung so heavily upon the cast and crew that they just couldn't get out of its way. And it's a pity because Scott had the money and the technology to really go well beyond the original and create something new and lasting. Instead, what we get is a decent enough popcorn flick suitable for a lazy summer afternoon. Oh well.

They relied almost exclusively on special effects to try to carry what little there is of a story, and they fail miserably. SPOILER ALERT: You'll spend most of this so-called movie waiting for one of the character's boob's to "Fall" out of her top. There is absolutely nothing believable or redeeming about this one-trick lame pony; the occasional adventurous photography is certainly not enough to justify such a horribly acted, pointless mess. Bored, privileged, annoying 20-something adrenaline junkies with a death wish -- what a concept! Just imagine if they put all that energy and effort into something actually meaningful, something outside of themselves. But no. A movie like that would take actual talent to create and produce. Nobody involved with "Fall" is capable of that.
