Marvelous movie, a hip-hop gangsta' tale set in Jersey City in the 90s. Multiple scenes linked by long takes of the main character walking alone in gritty Jersey streets, a mythical character teleported from ancient Japanese texts into our world.

I was initially puzzled by the seamless conversation with his Haitian friend the ice cream vendor. The true alignment of ideas between them transcends the constraints of language and that works for me.

The sound track has been widely praised and deservedly so, have just listened to it after watching the movie.

As pointed out so well in the "trivia" section Louie and Ghost Dog have different recollections of the circumstances of their initial meeting, as a nod to Rashomon.

One of the worst movies I have seen recently. The plot is terrible: painfully simple, implausible, and ultimately fake. The acting is wooden, for pretty much all characters (not only Ralph Graves).

Pre-code Hollywood is my current main cinematic interest and am almost systematically watching all productions I can get my hands on. Further, I am a fan of Frank Capra. Because of these reasons, I am still glad I watched, and will keep it my watchlist, mainly to avoid watching it again by mistake.

This movie might have an obscure historic value to the true connoisseur of the era, but is otherwise best forgotten.

I am quite fond of these New Wave movies with intensely personal perspectives on smaller, narrower dialog, and introspection. Saw this movie in the 1990's and just watched it again with great interest. Enjoying the details that set the time -- the cars, the clothes, the conversation.

One inexplicable error is casting Aurora Cornu -- she is truly a horrible actress. Leaving aside her thick, unattractive accent that might escape the viewer unfamiliar with the French language, the problem is that she is unburdened by any acting skills. She recites her lines in a wooden way, looking away from the interlocutor and exhibiting zero chemistry with Jerome. Painful amateur hour.
