A truly exceptional story of love, loss, survival and betrayal. At first glance, the movie appears cliché , as if it may be the new "IT" romance film." Too often, these movies fall flat and become a dime a dozen. I was skeptical at first due to some obscure casting and all the buzz about it being the hot novel. Stereotypically, there's a time and a place for these films, generally with a partner cuddled on a couch, or so I thought. I had a few initial reservations. Every once in a while, a securely adapted script, excellent direction and stellar performances revitalize what I feel is the lost art of movie making. This is that movie. The acting was superb, on point, Daisy's Kaia exuded such vulnerability I felt her hurt. There's plenty of anguish and deception throughout and every character delivers it right on time, to the point where you're not watching, you're feeling the plot unfold in front of you. This film tugs at every emotion, pulls your heart strings, holds your hand and walks you right through it all. It's a captivating story and executed to near perfection. Very well done!
I'm a big fan of Guy Ritchie's style. Love the pacing, the imagery, quirky cuts and the lot of his directorial technique. Mobland has some big names in the box by way of character actors. All of which, as well as the lesser knowns, displayed tremendous potential in season one. The key word here is potential. While exciting and action packed, the story has more holes in it than a wheel of Swiss cheese. Where is it going??? It certainly must have been written with the intent of further seasons. The characters have been established, the plot has thickened, some died, power moves made and the finale ends with...nothing. The story is nowhere and everywhere all at once. It is worth the watch but the show must go on man! The viewer wants to figure out what is actually happening here!
It was an interesting perspective from the vantage point of a serial killer's family member. There is a plethora of true crime serial killer shows out there but very little about being related to one of them and the impact that has. I don't feel that the storyline's intention was to depict the serial killer's story, it was about his actions and the impact that had on those closest to him. In that instance, the series delivered. Quaid does a wonderful job of bringing the narcissistic, manipulative mind of a killer to the viewer and keeps it suspenseful. The show did have a lot of peaks and valleys with regard to maintaining the viewer's interest. Annaleigh Ashford also does excellent work in her portrayal of Melissa. I feel that the story line doesn't dig deep enough into her character to allow it to fully develop. The remaining characters were rather pedestrian and underdeveloped as well. Maybe there will deeper insights into them in further seasons should there be any. One major observation I had that was not addressed in the show was Jesperson's stature. Keith Jesperson was a MASSIVE individual standing 6'8". I discovered this just prior to watching the series and couldn't help but feel how much more intense his character would have been portrayed had this been addressed. The show is good, it's worth watching. It left me wanting a bit more than I was given. Maybe that was the point.
