In any fable where one sells one's soul to the devil, the acting and screenwriting is what sets a winner apart. This film has both. Witty and poignant dialogue and performances that highlight the wonderful lines and characters. I'm always delighted when movies have scenes you walk out remembering out of nowhere, days later. Such is the one between Jagger and Angelica Huston; the scene where Jagger and Garcia talk at the beach. Michael Des Barres was also an inspired casting choice. This is a film I'd see again and again. Kudos to the cast and the writer.
It's fatal attraction in reverse but what's interesting is that in Say Nothing, I understood why the cheating took place. In the original Fatal Attraction (where the guy drops his pants), it's assumed that we'll root for him just cause he's Michael Douglas or because "guys" screw around. I especially liked that husband and wife are both grey characters -- each with his/her own set of problems. It's easy to relate to the ups and downs of a woman caught in a troubled marriage. The big surprise (which I won't spoil by telling) in the beginning was something I wouldn't have guessed from the trailer which is always good. (hate it when everything's given away in the trailer.) Worked for me on a lot of levels. It was tense, and I ate over my usual quota of popcorn so I know it had me.
I thought Kyle McLachlin was a great bad guy. The atmosphere was wonderful and the music quite good. It was a world fully realized and the way the characters crept through the plot was well drawn. I'd see it again if it were replayed.
