Wow, what a powerful episode. Lex's story has always been more interesting to me, to explore how he became the person he later becomes. This one goes way back in flashback and brilliantly only gives you a bit at a time and our minds rush to make connections and meanings but with each revelation makes one realize that you didn't know what you thought you knew. But most of all to witness the impact of a parent's bonds for good or for ill.

This was such a well written episode! The season started off slow as it meanders through a murder mystery plot but it starts to pick up later in this final season. This episode is part of that good turn. It has a great framing technique of beginning and ending with the Crocks that builds up to a great emotional arc in a single episode as well as an important reveal. The parallel of Pat and Starmans approach to the Crocks highlights the unexpected turns. The episode is able to capture the transformation of characters and emotional breakthrough beyond people just wanting to destroy the other, hitting on deeper hearts and motives.
