It is terrible. Weak. Amateurish.

To me it resembles a Sci-Fi invasion flick aimed at people who like emotional, heart wrenching soap operas, not for those who think it should have action and suspense and intelligent scientific possibilities.

Everyone else here on IMDB seems to be pointing out how slow it is. I'll go a bit further and say it is almost a punishment to watch as it drags its dull, boring carcass towards an unsatisfying and bland denouement. Peopled by totally unlikeable characters hitched to a story that eventually I didn't give two hoots for.

All this magnified by there actually being an episode that was smart and exciting, where the alien was hunting the family in the house. They should perhaps have just shown that and stopped wasting so much of our time.

2 stars, 1 for Sam Neill and 1 for that just mentioned house episode. I think I actually hated the rest of it. The writer should not anything more, ever!

Too many songs, all of them forgettable. The story, is adequate, but for a Disney movie that's not difficult to achieve. But the overall movie I found boring. Because? Too many songs.

The title, "Ammonite" sits well on this movie. It is so slow that I nearly fossilized in my seat. It's all rather grim, too, really, as grim as Kate's constantly downturned mouth corners. The women's relationship seems rushed, and lacks credence therefrom. Good for them for falling in love, but the fall was more a plummet. I was just bored I'm afraid. Even the passion of the love scenes failed to remove the calcification that built up in my being throughout the rest of this rather ponderous tale. Subtlety taken too far I feel. Saoirse has dainty feet. That's what I took away from my viewing.
