I thought Space 1999 Season 2 episodes were turkeys.
'The Full Circle' has nothing to do with Space 1999. A recon team loses touch, Koenig and Russell go down for some reason to find them, and they lose touch.
Some of the control room personnel go down, quicker than you can say, "Send more personnel", and the third team discover that the first two teams have turned into cavemen.
They have velour fur loincloths, a big mastodon tusk in the middle of thei cave, and capture Sandra (Zienia Morton), and put her in a leopard velour loincloth.
The cavemen all go "oogh boogah", Kano acts like an idiot when he goes down (isn't he a computer tech?), Barbara Bain goes batsh!t while wearing a loincloth maybe it's the unibrow they penciled on her?), the third party recues Koenig and he reverts to "normal", and the day is saved eventually.
What's it all mean? I have no idea and neither do the characters at the end. It's not Season 1 metaphysical, it's not some super-smart aliens running an experiment, it's just meaningless.
With Landau and Bain sidelined, the rest of the cast get to do something. Morse looks embarrassed and Morton rocks a loincloth and screams a lot. As for the rest, let's just say there's a reason most of the S1 scripts focused on the Landaus.
But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. What do you think?

The last 15 minutes become all trippy and 2001-ish, as the Moon enters the "black sun" and comes out the other side. Across the universe. Why? Who knows? There's a lot of speculation and hand-waving about cosmic intelligences.
The science is non-existent, but the episode makes no attempt to claim anything much sf is going on.
Where the episode shines is showing all the Alphans, and actually reacting to what's going on around them. Barry Morse is a class-act as always, but lesser lights like Darrow and Kano get brief moments to shine, as they accept their seeming fates.
Even 'Barbara Pain' is tolerable.
If 'Space 1999' has a reputation for metaphysics, it likely came from this episode. It indulges in metaphysical and technobabble, but it gets the human element for everyone down in a way it rarely did otherwise.
But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. What do you think?
