I'm not going to say much about the plot, except this. I watched "Blade Runner 2049" having seen "Blade Runner" 3x, the first time in the 1980s, but my most recent viewing had been 20+ yrs ago.

A year later I watched it in a marathon back-to-back with the original "Blade Runner" coming first, then "Blade Runner 2049" as "part 2". It was WAY WAY better, I have increased my rating from 6 stars to 8 stars.

Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas do a great job, Ana is especially unforgettable as a ghostlike 3d projection to gosling as he is walking through the city!!!

Jennifer Lopez plays an entitled and excessively emotional Karen who is inadvertently sucked into a combat role against an ai terrorist when her ship along with dozens of space marines is shot down over an atmospherically hostile planet. Most or all of yhe dpace marones are killed. I found myself wishing that she's get killed off starting about 7 minutes into the movie but i suspect my wishes will never be satisfied (I'm at 48 minutes and still no satisfaction yetz but i still hold out hope the she gets killed off).

The screenwriter of this movie needs to know more about making a sympathetic but flawed hero!

The movie is hard to watch because many of the characters are so low on the social totem pole in the '70s and it's hard to see people struggling in this way. But the acting is superb and you don't expect to see a dystopian 70 blaxsploitatation-style film that has some sci-fi elements.

If you saw the TV adaptation of the famous story "The stepford wives" on TV in the 1970s then I would say this is a revisit of that idea if the exploited class was not females but were black neighborhoods. I'm only halfway through and I'm hoping that he exploited classes in this movie fights back unlike in "The stepford wives".
