Denzel becomes an equalizer years before the first "Equalizer" movie.
It was Los Angeles in 1948, race relations were uneasy, Denzel Washington is Easy Rawlins (Easy for "E-Z", the first two letters of Ezekiel). He moved there from Houston and found a job as a machinist with a company that builds aircraft. But now he is being laid off, he has a home, he needs to pay his mortgage. And eat.
His daily routine are the ads in the paper and looking for a suitable job. When he is contacted by Tom Sizemore as Dewitt Albright, looking for a woman. He will give Easy $200 (about $2500 in today's 2025 equivalent) just to find her, that's all. He even tells Easy where she usually hangs out.
The woman of interest is Jennifer Beals as Daphne Monet, the "devil in the blue dress." She has a Creole mother, meaning she is of mixed race and she frequents black nightclubs.
The core story involves an upcoming L. A. mayor's election, there are some photos, crimes which would knock out one candidate, several murders occur while everyone is peeing on Easy and telling him it is rain.
Denzel is of course great in the role, a nice example of a 1990s crime and detective movie.
I watched it at home on Blu-Ray from the Criterion Collection from my public library.

I found this movie on DVD at my public library. Its rating seems a bit low, my wife and I found it enjoyable, interesting and entertaining. The end credits and extras include the real family depicted here.
Zachary Levi is Scott, working in pharmaceutical sales. One day he is at a clothing store and sees a pretty clerk. He stammers and manages to get her phone number.
The pretty clerk is Meghann Fahy as Teresa. They start dating and soon she calls him and says, "I'm pregnant." He eventually finds out other things, a function of not getting to know a person well before falling in love.
Anyway they have a baby boy, he seems healthy but cries a lot. They soon find he has inherited the brittle bone affliction from his mother and had some broken ribs during birth. In addition, as he gets older is diagnosed with autism.
All of this creates a slew of expensive problems for the family. Scott copes by drinking too much which exacerbates the problems. The movie is about their working through all the difficulties and achieving their own definition of happiness.
I will also make special mention of Jacob Laval who plays young autistic Austin as a 13yr old. While all the actors are good he elevates it to superb.

I found this movie on DVD from my public library. It is difficult to watch at times, much as a multi-car wreck is difficult to watch. But you keep watching to see if anything survives the wreck. I found it to be a good movie.
Nicole Kidman is the star as Romy. In the first scene she is in bed with her husband of 19 years, actively making love, along with loud grunts. When he finishes she rushes off to a different room, lies on the floor watching porn on a laptop to satisfy herself. That establishes one half of her condition, later she tells her husband she never had an orgasm in sex with him, yet they have two teenage daughters.
Then we see her at her job in Manhattan, she is CEO of a cutting edge company with automated warehouses using robots. This day she is recording a video of a scripted presentation, then welcoming a group of young interns.
This is a story written and directed by a woman, it addresses the difficult subject of a successful, seemingly flawless older woman who appears to have it all, but has a dark side that results in an inappropriate attraction to the danger of an affair with a much younger intern in her company. He whispers in her ear, "Babydoll."
As I watched it many times I thought to myself, "This behavior isn't plausible", but also wondering, "Does this sort of thing really happen in the corporate world?"
In spite of everything that we see before it, the final scene was very good and touching and sort of brought Romy's needs to a manageable point.
My wife watched the trailer and decided that it was not a movie she wanted to see.
