"This is about taking away rights." "This can't be America." An official trailer has debuted for an important documentary film called The Librarians, about the librarians fighting the fascist book banning in America right now. The acclaimed doc will get a global release with backing of a coalition of supporters - including Film Forum, Dogwoof, 8 Above, PBS' Independent Lens, BBC Storyville, Roco Films, Kanopy and a cohort of organizations defending the freedom to read including Pen America, the American Library Association, & Penguin Random House. “The Librarians” has unveiled its official trailer ahead of a global release this fall.
Helmed by Kim A. Snyder, “The Librarians” is a documentary that follows small-town librarians in Granbury, Texas, who have found themselves at the center of a large-scale movement to defend intellectual freedom of information as they fight against legislative book bans in their hometown.
“When we began this journey three and a half years ago, we were struck by the courage of what was to become a diverse cast of inspiring patriots fighting at great risk to protect our First Amendment rights,” said Snyder. “Our vision evolved to create a mosaic weaving together their stories set against the backdrop of a historically unique time, imbued by archival references, an original score by Nico Muhly and references to some of our greatest challenged books.”

Noah Wyle has gone back to his medical drama roots with The Pitt. For his lead role as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, an attending physician during an exceptionally difficult emergency room shift, the actor earned his first Primetime Emmy nomination in 25 years. The series has proven massively successful for HBO Max more broadly, with The Pitt season 2 returning in January 2026.
But in the years between his breakout ER role as John Carter and The Pitt, Wyle has embraced genre series. Some lean more mainstream, like the stylish crime drama Leverage: Redemption, but he's also had a key role both as a producer and star of The Librarians franchise. HBO Max has released the first trailer for “The Pitt” Season 2, with returning stars Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon and more. The new season premieres in January.
The trailer shows Robby clocking in for a new shift on a new day at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center’s emergency room. “The prodigal son returns,” quips one nurse as Robby walks in at the beginning of his shift, as Dana (Katherine Lanasa) — who apparently hasn’t quit her job, as she discussed doing in Season 1 — looks at him with raised eyebrows.
The new season will take place on the Fourth of July, which is also the first day back for Dr. Langdon after he returns from his inpatient rehab program. Robby ordered Langdon to attend rehab due to his drug problem in Season 1.

When Noah Wyle stopped by TV Insider’s office during Season 1, he told us that he’d “very much like to” direct in Season 2. He’d previously directed episodes of Falling Skies, The Librarians, and Leverage: Redemption. In Season 1, he only added the titles of executive producer and writer to star. But that is changing for Season 2. On Tuesday, August 19, Wyle shared a photo of the clapperboard from set, revealing he’s directing Season 2 Episode 6. “Never want to wake up from this dream,” read the caption. Season 2 will pick up 10 months later, on Langdon’s (Patrick Ball) first day back at work following rehab. Wyle’s character Robby would have much rather not be working the same shift as the resident who betrayed him by stealing pills. “Robby can be petty, and forgiveness is sometimes harder for some than others. And yeah, betrayal is a big deal,” Wyle told us in August.

Noah Wyle has been at the heart of HBO Max’s breakout medical drama The Pitt, not just as its star, but also as an executive producer and writer. And while the show’s success is no doubt the result of a whole team effort, it’s hard to ignore the argument that The Pitt wouldn’t have risen relatively high without Wyle’s presence. Co-star Shawn Hatosy has even admitted, saying, “We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for him.” Wyle, however, has reacted humbly to such praise, redirecting that praise to the entire cast and crew. That said, the show seems poised for even more success...

Noah Wyle is taking on a different kind of role for an episode in The Pitt season 2. Wyle plays Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch in HBO Max's critically acclaimed medical drama series, is an executive producer, and wrote two season 1 episodes. It was announced on June 16 that production on The Pitt season 2 had begun.
Several noticeable shifts from season 1 have occurred since then, with the most notable being that Heather Collins (Tracy Ifeachor) is not returning. Meanwhile, Shawn Hatosy, who played Dr. Jack Abbott in season 1, is not only reprising his role in season 2, but is directing an episode.
Per Variety, Wyle now shared at the Televerse 2025 festival that he is directing episode 6 of The Pitt season 2. Production for episode 5 was recently completed, and work on episode 6 will commence this Tuesday. Check out Wyle's comments below:

In addition to writing, executive producing and leading “The Pitt,” Noah Wyle will step behind the camera and direct the sixth episode of Season 2.
“We are just about finished with episode five. We start episode six on Tuesday,” Wyle said during a panel for the show on Saturday as part of the inaugural Televerse 2025 festival. “I feel prepped, which is what you want to feel. Well, that’s not how I expected The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 1 to conclude, but I’m intrigued about where things will go next.
This series has been such a refreshing delight this summer that it’s a real shame it’s now heading into what will no doubt be a long hiatus.
That’s the curse of loving a summer series: just when you’re fully invested, it’s time to wait months for answers.
(Aleksandar Letic/TNT)
But we have a lot to unpack from this finale, so let’s dive in.
From the moment Gregor was introduced, the possibilities felt endless. He’s the kind of villain who thrives in a franchise like The Librarians — clever, dangerous, and theatrical enough that you never quite know what angle he’ll play next.
(Aleksandar Letic/TNT)
One of the unwritten rules of this universe is that villains rarely stay gone forever.

Some days you feel like curling up on the couch, putting something on the TV, and getting your base instincts stimulated.
Shows that are heavy on violence can be pretty entertaining as the creative team devises new ways to make you recoil at the thought of being on the receiving end of what’s happening.
Violence on TV doesn’t have to be gratuitous, and enjoying it doesn’t mean you’re depraved. It can serve a bigger purpose than entertainment, elevating a show by accurately depicting certain times and places where violence was the norm.
(Sky/Cinemax/HBO [Screenshot]])
It’s an opportunity to comment on the complex history of the human race, the progress we’ve made, and the road we must travel.
The shows in this list stand out because of their ability to use violence as art. These carefully choreographed scenes constitute a significant feat in television production.

Does anyone else feel like we’re being punked with 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? Season 9?
Just when it seemed the franchise was inching toward a comeback, 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? Season 9 Episode 5 stumbles in wearing last year’s plotlines and smelling faintly of desperation.
The editors have somehow perfected the art of stretching ten minutes of story into two hours of television.

When TNT canceled The Librarians after four seasons and countless movies, there were many unhappy fans.
When The Librarians: The Next Chapter was announced, there were questions about which franchise alums would be stopping by.
Now that we’re approaching the season finale, details are trickling out about the second season of the sequel series, including which guest stars are on board.

The cabler has confirmed that Christian Kane, who plays Jacob Stone, has booked a return visit to the series.
However, an episode could not have been determined for his role, but since Jacob is a crucial element of why the Library is currently functional in Belgrade, I doubt he’ll ever be too far from the drama.

Jacob is a part of The Librarians’ DNA, too, so that bodes well for him to continue making sporadic appearances.

Now that’s The Librarians I was waiting for.
The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 1 Episode 11 delivered the most cohesive, engaging, and emotionally complex hour of the season so far — and that’s saying a lot.
By finally bringing Gregor into the present timeline and fleshing out new characters like Hermione, the series took a massive step toward fulfilling its potential.

Let’s start with Vikram’s heel turn — or, maybe more accurately, his very human descent into uncertainty and self-doubt.
Vikram has been one of the most unpredictable characters throughout The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 1. He oscillates between a charismatic hero and an impulsive wildcard, but this episode gave us a clearer glimpse into the internal conflict that has been bubbling beneath the surface.

Oh, Vikram! What have you done?
The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 1 Episode 10 pivoted in a big way after Vikram’s impulsive, heart-driven decision to use some of the Library’s most iconic artifacts to build a time machine. What could go wrong, right?
Since The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 1 Episode 1, Vikram has been a wildcard — a man out of time, literally.
(Aleksandar Letic/TNT)
Plucked from the 1800s and thrown into a modern world governed by rules he didn’t help write, Vikram has often clashed with the Library’s rigid code of conduct. While everyone else adapted to the system, he’s been quietly bucking against it from the start.
So when he jumped back in time, was it a betrayal? Or was it an act of destiny? That’s the philosophical tug-of-war this hour explored, and it did so with depth and emotional stakes.

The gloves are off with our coverage of The Institute.
If the first review was about setting the facts straight, we’re going to have a good time from now on, picking the pieces apart of this maddening series.
Because, yes, I have never wanted to see a group of people get their comeuppance more than I do the wackadoodles who work at the Institute. Just behind them are the Dennison townsfolk (what there are of them) themselves.
(Chris Reardon/MGM+)
There’s not a lot going on with “Graduation,” and yet it’s still ripe for discussion. Stephen King adaptations have a way of doing that to you, so we’re going to run wild.
The first thing that comes to mind is how incredibly awful the Institute is to the kids they kidnap. Hey, I’m not an idiot. Yes, the kids are being kidnapped for goodness’ sake.

Has TLC mastered the art of padding out episodes to squeeze every last cent from the 90 Day Fiancé franchise?
That thought hit me while watching 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? Season 9 Episode 3 delivered very little of substance and leaned heavily on filler to meet its two-hour runtime.
(TLC/Screenshot)
Once upon a time, the franchise thrived with lean, drama-packed one-hour installments.
Now, nearly every entry clocks in at two hours, and for what?
Most of the storylines are either stalled or nonexistent, and it’s painfully apparent that many of these personalities have nothing interesting left to say.
We were promised a dramatic showdown between Gino and Jasmine, and what we got was a whole lot of nothing.

The parking lot meetup between them was a snoozefest dressed up as high-stakes drama. Jasmine clearly still loves Gino, but...

Warning: Mild Spoilers for The Librarians: The Next Chapter season 1, episode 10, "And Going Medieval."
A new clip from The Librarians: The Next Chapter episode 10 hints at a major family secret that could severely threaten Vikram’s already tense relationship with Elaine Astolat. Although the scene in question includes the entire The Librarians: The Next Chapter cast, it’s ultimately one exchange between Vikram and Elaine that appears it may set up the episode’s primary conflict.
The episode’s promo already suggested a continuation of The Librarians: The Next Chapter’s time travel plotline, but it isn’t clear why Vikram would bring the others back in time when they haven’t been part of that plan. With little time left until the wait for The Librarians: The Next Chapter season 2, however, this clip foreshadows a potentially major reveal.

Vampires have been teased all season long, so it was only a matter of time before The Librarians: The Next Chapter finally delivered the fangs.
The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 1 Episode 9 brought Connor face-to-face with the undead at a vampire convention — because, of course, that’s where this show would go next — and the results were unexpectedly charming, a little dangerous, and full of that classic Librarians energy.
Connor has always been the team’s resident curiosity machine, a guy who wants to poke every magical artifact and investigate every sketchy creature, even if it might kill him.
(Aleksandar Letic/TNT)
This time, his lack of self-preservation landed him in trouble with Peter, a vampire who looked like bad news on arrival but somehow managed to lower Connor’s guard.
Credit to the show for making Peter feel like more than a one-dimensional villain. He was suave, unsettling,...

Rebecca Romijn plays Una a.k.a. Number One in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, but she played a leading character in another TV show that is a perfect companion piece for Trekkies. In TNT’s The Librarians, Romijn played Eve Baird, a former NATO agent, who is tasked with leading the Library, which houses several historical and magical artifacts.
Based on the TV movie series of the same name, the adventure series is more Indiana Jones with witchcraft than Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. However, Romijn’s performance as Eve is the highlight of the show, and with a similar adventure-of-the-week structure, it feels familiar to Trekkies. If you cannot wait until this week’s season 3 premiere of Snw season 3, then this is the show to get your dose of Romijn before July 17.

It's been 20 years since Noah Wyle left "ER," and while he's worked consistently ever since, the actor never quite landed a show that had the same cultural impact as NBC's medical drama. That is, until "The Pitt," which has become nothing short of a sensation since its January 2025 debut on HBO Max.
While the series is another medical drama set in an emergency room, it is not a spin-off of "ER," (though a lawsuit alleges otherwise). Nonetheless, it very much feels as if we're catching up with Wyle's former medical student John Carter in "The Pitt," with the actor starring as veteran attending physician Dr. Michael Robinavitch. Wyle did an outstanding job of portraying the brilliant but beleaguered doctor in season 1, an accomplishment that becomes even more impressive when you find out he also wrote two episodes: episode 4, "10:00 A.M.," and episode 9, "3:00 P.M."

Ben Stiller is not a standup comedian — and that’s Ok.
At the 30th annual Nantucket Film Festival, Stiller assembled a group of comedy all-stars, as he has for the years, to discuss their journeys and share career insights while cracking up the auditorium audience.
This year, Stiller shared that he was “dead set against” a comedy career because it’s what his parents did, and an early attempt at standup in his teens pretty much killed that particular interest. The bit focused on New York City’s alternate side parking policy, and he even performed a version for festival-goers and his fellow panelists.
Obviously, comedy found its way to Stiller one way or another, but not on the path taken by the panel’s improvisers Amber Ruffin and Zach Cherry, or standups Iliza Shlesinger, Michael Ian Black, and Mae Martin. Shlesinger was working a desk job and asked her...

The first season of The Librarians: The Next Chapter is working its way towards a conclusion. The series is a direct spin-off of the original 2014 fantasy adventure series The Librarians, while also maintaining ties with the pioneer movie trilogy of the franchise — 2004's Quest for the Spear, 2006's Return to King Solomon’s Mines, and 2008's Curse of the Judas Chalice. Debuting in May 2025, The Librarians: The Next Chapter is currently airing on TNT, bringing with it the familiar tone of a magical repository housing powerful and dangerous supernatural artifacts, with villains seeking them and custodians protecting them. Season 2 of the show had been ordered before the conclusion of the first season, and one of its stars has an exciting update.

The Pitt star Noah Wyle was recently nominated for his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — and although the honor was unsurprising, his response was unexpected. On July 3, Warner Bros. TV shared a video via X of Wyle, 54, standing with the cast and crew of The Pitt as someone announced to the group that he was getting a Hollywood Walk of Fame star. The actor was one of 35 individuals revealed for the accolade for 2026. In the clip, a man recounted Wyle’s successful career, including starring in another medical drama, ER, the TV show The Librarians and films like Donnie Darko and A Few Good Men. The actor covered his face at one point during the rundown of his projects and awards. Toward the end, Wyle declared, “I’m so embarrassed!” before adding he was “so, so, so thrilled.” “I did grow up in Hollywood,” he continued. “I...

You can’t keep a good serial killer down — especially not when there’s IP to exploit.
Dexter Morgan is set to return (again) in Dexter: Resurrection, despite being definitively killed off in New Blood and then casually voiceover-resurrected in Original Sin (a show I loved).
But before Showtime unpacks another bloody chapter, we took a trip down memory lane. And let’s just say… wow. The things we overlooked the first time around? Absolutely unhinged.

Dexter is poised for yet another chapter. And frankly, it’s the perfect time to revisit the madness that got us here.
While rewatching the series, I noticed just how many moments — big, small, and plastic-wrapped — have aged into either brilliant nuance or total unhinged chaos.
From bizarre kill rituals to forgotten guest stars, these are the 37 things living rent-free in my head.

Connor has always been one of the more intriguing members of the team, so getting a full-blown dive into his past made for another compelling hour of The Librarians: The Next Chapter.
Throughout the season, we’ve gotten breadcrumbs about where he was in life before that fateful encounter with the Library changed everything.
The series never outright stated that he was running from anything, which made the revelation about his vampire theories — and how they damaged his reputation — feel like a genuine surprise.

In many ways, leaving that part of his life behind gave him the clean break he needed.
A sense of purpose has replaced the negativity that once defined him, and joining the Library full-time has been both a lifeline and a way to make peace with his past.

Although it only had three seasons during the Halcyon Days of Saturday morning cartoons, the cult following it has developed has kept the Voltron mystique alive and well decades later. The good news is that the movie is set to take that to the next stage.

Taylor Dearden broke out as a star earlier this year thanks to her performance in The Pitt, and now, as Season 2 production for the medical drama is ramping up, she’s pulling back the curtain on the relationship between Mel and a controversial character. There are plenty of other team players in Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center's ER, like Noah Wyle's Dr. Robby, but not everyone has the same morals as their fearless leader.
One member of the team who falls more in the gray area in terms of his moral compass is Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), who is caught stealing medication from patients. Langdon ultimately comes back to help with the mass shooting, which is a relief for Mel, who had formed quite a connection with him — one that fans can't get enough of. It’s shaping up as an award-winning summer for actress-producer Lucy Liu.
On Saturday night Liu received the Rising to the Challenge Award at the Bentonville Film Festival in Arkansas, an honor that “recognizes artists who champion storytelling that breaks barriers and broadens representation.”
It wasn’t her only award of the night. Her new drama Rosemead, directed by Eric Lin, won Best Narrative at the 11th edition of the festival chaired by Geena Davis. Liu produced the film and stars as “Irene,” a Chinese immigrant who simultaneously faces a personal health crisis and the alarming descent of her son into schizophrenia.
“Rosemead captures the terrifying realities of motherhood in our contemporary era,” wrote the jury, comprised of filmmaker Marie Jamora (guest artistic director of AFI’s Directing Workshop for Women) and filmmaker Bomani J. Story (The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster). “When culture, society, and healthcare break down,...

Rosemead, starring Lucy Liu as a terminally ill woman desperate to protect her son, took home the Best Narrative Award at the 11th annual Bentonville Film Festival.
Also a producer on the film, Liu was additionally honored with the Rising to the Challenge Award, a prize "given to a select few artists in the history of Bentonville Film Festival and honoring those who represent the true impact of supporting independent film both in front of and behind the camera."
Cofounded by Academy Award winner Geena Davis, the Arkansas-based fest also handed out Best Documentary, which went to The Librarians, Kim A. Snyder's examination of library workers facing censorship in Texas.
Best Homegrown, an award reserved for filmmakers hailing from Arkansas, was won by Sovereign. Directed by Christian Swegal, the film — inspired by true events — tells the story of a father and son with anti-governmental leanings and stars Nick Offerman,...

The Bentonville Film Foundation, in collaboration with founding partner, Walmart, and presenting sponsor, Coca-Cola, announced the winners of its 11th Annual Bentonville Film Festival on Saturday.
“Rosemead,” starring Lucy Liu, took the top prize, winning the best narrative award for a feature film. In addition, Liu was presented with the Rising to the Challenge Award, given to artists who support independent film and “put their talent, passion and experience on the line in the service of empowering stories that are otherwise underrepresented.” Directed by Eric Lin, “Rosemead” premiered earlier this month at the Tribeca Film Festival and centers on a mother faced with an impossible choice. The film has received excellent reviews, particularly for Liu’s transformative performance. In a statement, the jury that voted on the prize noted: “Director Eric Lin sparks real-world conversations about the society we’re living in through an intimate, unflinching film based on true...

For the fantasy TV fan, Prime Video is essentially a one-stop shop.
The streamer boasts multi-season adaptations for two of the most popular fantasy book series on the market, animated features of a popular D&d campaign and a comic book from the creator of “The Walking Dead.” Whatever flavor of fantasy you’re looking for is likely on Prime Video.
From “Lord of the Rings” to “Invincible,” these are the fantasy shows on Prime Video that you need on your radar.

“The Wheel of Time” is a rare show that improved every season across it’s three-season run on Prime Video. While the first was rocky for both fans of Robert Jordan’s sprawling book series and TV viewers looking for the next “Game of Thrones,” the third – and unfortunately final – season found it’s...

Warning: Mild Spoilers for The Librarians: The Next Chapter episode 6, "And the House of Cards."
It only took The Librarians: The Next Chapter a single episode to begin establishing its own identity outside of the original series, but a new clip from episode 6 highlights just how deadly the stakes have become. It’s already clear from the fact that The Librarians: The Next Chapter season 2 is already filming that TNT had faith in Dean Devlin’s latest series, and every episode thus far has done more than the last to earn that goodwill. But a new clip provided by TNT demonstrates exquisitely how far the stakes are being raised just halfway through the season.
The clip begins with The Librarians: The Next Chapter cast gathered around Tarot reader Madam Visconti as Connor tries to make sense of the cards she’s pulled. It’s quickly revealed that the Tarot...

There’s no show on TV with the tone of The Librarians: The Next Chapter.
Every single episode features high stakes and potentially deadly scenarios, but the series never loses sight of the fact that viewers are here for a fun ride from start to finish.
The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 1 Episode 5, was the most comical to date, mainly because many of our beloved characters lost their memories at several points.
(Aleksandar Letic/TNT)
Sadly, it was evident Laslo was the villain from the get-go, so I wouldn’t have minded some form of revelation that Rosalind was playing everyone and was, in fact, the individual pulling all the strings.
The series has excelled throughout its first four episodes with shocking twists that have changed the trajectory of the mission at the eleventh hour.

Perhaps the creatives wanted to take a different approach here, but it...
