Iodine Livermorium Uranium.

Nora and her husband Hector are two physicists trying to build a time machine to study and even control time. It's 1966 and the times they live in, do not give Nora her due respect. When Nora eventually cracks the code for their machine to work, the duo travel to 2025 using the very machine. The new world, in a new era leads the duo towards Nora's relatives. The time jump helps Nora get accustomed to the more acceptable society, getting her due recognition while Hector starts to feel out of place. Their own invention starts to test their love for each other. How do they tackle this and will love triumph, forms rest of the story.

I always seek out time travel films as the concept hasn't ceased to excite me. This romantic time travel drama checks all the boxes of this genre and tries to base the story around Nora alone. What I did like about the film is it's portrayal of Hector and his predicament. He was not reduced to a caricature and his feelings were well addressed too. The character's decion in the end was also rightfully cheesy for a romantic drama and I appreciate that the writing allowed Hector and Nora to have a discussion even if it ended abruptly for the cheesy twist. The screenplay doesn't try anything new but succeeds in delivering a decent film that is worth watching once.

Worth the watch

It's a fun film. Not groundbreaking, but it still manages to cause some excitement, laughs, and moments of thoughtfulness .

The cinematography is quite great, and there's a lot of effort behind this production. The sets and decoration are fantastic. The wardrobe very well crafted.

The acting is quite on par with the main actors abilities, Mexican icons in their own rights. And the rest of the talent does not fall behind.

The script is basic, don't expect a deep story. If you go in without much expectations, you'll get pleasantly surprised.

If you're looking for a fun watch with a message, this is it!

Make time to watch this film

Yes there are huge plot holes in the Mexican film but it isn't a rigorous sci fi film. Instead it is a delightful story of gender inequality and how time changes us all. The time machine recalls HG Wells and the main characters are fun and very watchable.

Critics of the film have probably never been to Mexico and seen for themselves the gender divide there. I have witnessed the macho culture and it is like something from the 1960s. So if this film can shine a light then i applaud it. It will be popular amongst women who can probably relate to the main character and her efforts to keep everyone happy.

Well worth a watch.

Charming and refreshing, with some goofiness

My thoughts:

Entertaining and clever, mostly.

There are some weirdos, no doubt misogynists, out there reviewing films. They had one DeLorean, in one scene, for just a few seconds, as a subtle nod to Back to the Future and one idiot was like, 'They imitated Back to the Future the whole movie!' 😆

The bad reviews are red-tarded.

It's not the best movie in the history of cinema, but for the type of movie it is, '60s science geek couple travel 60 years into the future to find women's inequality has mostly disappeared, which tests their relationship,' it's actually pretty good.

Some of the nerds are tripping all over themselves to lament the lack of 'tech cool, CGI driven action' and totally missing the humor, social conflict and pathos that makes this film unique and interesting. I doubt some of them even know what a joke is.

It doesn't get the main theme quite right, as I don't see Hector, the male lead who praises the couple's love as an 'omnipresent force in the past and the future' shallowly abandoning the love of his life when he loses a few of the advantages of male entitlement. Any real scientist, especially an only child with no real ties to the past, would've been thrilled with the advances in science and technology and opted to stay in the future. He also would've seen the second class citizenship of women in the past as objectively wrong, adapted to the new, merit based, fairer world and looked for a way to fit in from the get go.

So it wasn't perfect, but well worth watching.

Social change wrapped in a sci-fi love story

This is a thought-provoking sci-fi romance that uses time travel and gender roles to highlight how the most impactful societal changes are not technological, but social. The film pushes some boundaries in this regard and encourages viewers to reflect on how the world has changed-and continues to change-and how those changes are experienced by different people.

Some viewers have pointed out plot holes, but this movie isn't meant to be taken too literally. While certain inconsistencies are hard to ignore, they don't significantly affect the narrative. For example, it's hardly essential to worry about how time travelers from the past managed to buy train tickets-we can simply assume they rode without one, if that's easier.

The acting is solid throughout and suits the characters well. These are scientists-not eccentric inventors like Doc Brown in Back to the Future-but more grounded portrayals of physicists. They're realistic people with personal lives beyond the lab, holding both liberal and conservative views in different areas. And yes, they have romantic relationships too.

Overall, I enjoyed this film. It never felt boring, and the story moved steadily forward, with twists that weren't exactly surprising, but felt inevitable in a satisfying way. Some viewers may feel uncomfortable, while others may feel seen-but in the end, the film delivers a powerful message and explores timely, relevant issues. It's hard to argue with the underlying truths, even when they're wrapped in fiction.

Promising Sci Fi Undercut by Heavy Handed Feminism

Our Times starts with a refreshingly original sci fi concept set in 1960s Mexico. The story blends nostalgia, time travel, and a couple's scientific ambition into an engaging and emotional setup. It draws you in with warmth, humor, and a sense of wonder.

The film stands out for its visuals and tone. There is charm in the details, chemistry between the leads, and genuine interest in how the story will unfold.

However, as the plot develops, the movie shifts focus. What begins as a touching sci fi journey slowly turns into a strong social message. While some may welcome this feminist angle, others might find it feels out of place and too direct. The balance between story and message is not always smooth.

Instead of letting themes unfold naturally through the characters and plot, the film becomes more focused on making a point. This shift weakens the emotional impact and leaves the science fiction aspect underused.

A poorly made copy of many movies

Lucero and Benny Ibarra are two familiar faces from national cinema, but this film is clearly their worst work and version to date. I saw it yesterday, and from the moment I started, I realized it was another TV soap opera turned into a movie.

Mexican cinema is going through its worst moment, and I think this type of film is proving it.

Repetitive plots, recycled characters, extreme feminism, bad scenes and, above all, bad acting make this film one of the worst I've seen this year.

The most complicated aspect was that they stole things from "Back to the Future," and I don't know why they made it seem so splendid or as if they were the greatest geniuses in this type of film. I think it could have been better, but they took the easy way out and went for the typical scenes of modern Mexican cinema.

"Are we "Victims of Our Time?" Or can we change?

A lovely, sweet and poignant film that asks: Are we really victims of our times, and if so -- is it by choice -- or convenience -- or both? This film is a Romance-SciFi that also highlights the "Pendulum Effect" of change in human evolution; especially with regard to gender. Changes that some adapt to better than others. I thought the content of this film was relevant for our times; especially here in the USA where 70 million Americans appear to want to turn back the clock to an era that benefitted the few at the sacrifice of many -- but that's a much more complex story for another post.

FILM PROS: Great Acting and Dialogue FILM CONS: It could have better story development. I felt the film could have delved deeper into perceived notions of gender from 1966 to 2025, rather than bluntly end the film on a more "Novela" style romantic note.

Still, I thoroughly enjoyed this film and was really pleased to see the great Mexican actress, Ofelia Medina, back in the limelight.

Extremely disappointing

If you're considering watching this movie, you might want to think twice. From the very first scene, it becomes painfully clear that this film is a mishmash of poor acting, a convoluted plot, and what seems like a budget that barely covered the cost of the snacks for the cast and crew.

The acting is perhaps the most glaring issue. The performances are so wooden that they could easily be mistaken for a high school drama club's first attempt at a serious production. The lead actor delivers lines with all the emotional depth of a cardboard cutout, while the supporting cast seems to be competing for the title of "Most Unconvincing Performance." It's hard to believe that these actors were even given the opportunity to step in front of a camera, as their lack of chemistry and dramatic range makes every scene feel like a chore to watch.

As for the plot, it's a tangled web of clichés and nonsensical twists that leave viewers scratching their heads in confusion. The premise of time travel could have been an exciting concept, but the execution is so poor that it feels more like a series of random events strung together rather than a coherent story. The timeline jumps are jarring, and the attempts at emotional stakes fall flat, leaving audiences feeling more bewildered than engaged. It's as if the writers threw darts at a board of sci-fi tropes and decided to go with whatever landed closest, resulting in a narrative that lacks any real substance or originality.

The production quality is another area where this film falters. The special effects are laughable, reminiscent of early 2000s television shows rather than a feature film. It's clear that the budget was minimal, and the lack of investment is evident in every frame. The sound design is equally subpar, with awkward audio transitions and background music that feels out of place, further detracting from any potential immersion in the story.

In conclusion, this movie is a disheartening example of how not to create a time travel drama. From the lackluster performances to the nonsensical plot and cheap production values, it's hard to find any redeeming qualities. If you're in the mood for a quality film that explores the complexities of time travel, you'd be better off looking elsewhere. Save your time and money-this is one movie that should be left in the past.

Decent enough

Movie has fairly simple premise. Married pair of scientists travel from 1966 to 2025 and encounter vastly different society. They want to go back, but do they really?

Movie doesn't waste time on explaining mechanics of time travel, which is a good call as trying to make it more scientifically grounded often runs into series of problems. They just explain the very basics and say "this is how it works".

Main focus is about adapting to changed society. Early in the movie we are told repeatedly how chauvinistic society is and how woman scientist is taken less seriously. But in 2025 she is. So would she be willing to go back to her old life if her new life can be so much better?

In that way it's not so much of a sci-fi, time traveling movie but look into people "out of their time". But unlike movies where person goes into the past and brings "advanced" views this one reverses it and they bring "old fashioned" views into present.

It's an OK movie to watch, just don't expect it to be sci-fi heavy.

Our Times is Disappointing

I really wanted to like Our Times, but sadly, it just didn't deliver. The storyline felt like a recycled version of every teen romance cliché out there-mean girls, love triangles, and an over-the-top "bad boy with a heart of gold." It tried hard to be nostalgic and touching, but instead came off as forced and melodramatic.

The pacing dragged in the middle, and the emotional moments felt unearned and manipulative. The characters lacked depth, especially the lead-she's portrayed as quirky and clumsy, but that's not enough to make her relatable or compelling. The ending, while trying to be sweet, felt unrealistic and overly sentimental.

Honestly, I don't understand the hype. If you're looking for a teen romance that feels fresh or sincere, there are better options out there.

Bad movie

This film offers a fundamentally weak narrative structure, wherein the initial premise of time travel is undermined by the overt insertion of ideological themes that feel incongruous with the core storyline. The performances are notably lacking in emotional nuance and follow a highly predictable trajectory, diminishing the film's intended dramatic weight. From a screenwriting perspective, character arcs remain underdeveloped, and narrative resolutions are executed with little sophistication. As a whole, the film fails to distinguish itself either thematically or artistically. It ultimately falls short of delivering a compelling cinematic experience.

Not Really a 10 BUT Way Better Than People Say

So firstly, no, this film is not really a 10 like other -0 films such as Citizen Kane or Apocalypse Now; BUT I feel a strong desire to help try to affect the algorithm and lift the low rating that many others have given this film.

What it is is part SciFi, part sociological exploration specifically gender equality exploration, and part love story.

The love story aspect of the film is very beautiful and moving, if you are or ever have been madly in love or married you will especially appreciate this movie. The SciFi aspect of the film is also inventive and engaging. In fact it's the very first SciFi movie that has ever gone this deep into the very real exploration of the societal dynamics and challenges of time travel.

The writing is commendable and impressive. The direction is better than fine, not half as bad as other reviewers are saying. And the acting is especially good. I believe some are being offended by certain very real societal realities expressed in the movie and are deliberately trying to give it a low rating because of that. But if you like SciFi or romances or sociological explorations, you'll like and respect this inventive movie.

Powerful Women, Dumb Evil Men Trope AGAIN..

So it suckers you in with the "people from the past going to the future" theme, an it seems like an okay movie so far if you can get over the terrible acting, but then "the message" just like how Hollywood is constantly trying to cram down its audiences throat rears its ugly head once again.

The guy sees guys lose their power and the woman sees women gaining power. Now of course they never touch on the fact that divorce is rampant because of this power struggle, families are broke apart, population is declining, girls are abortion obsessed sluts with Only fans accounts in the name of "power", and that women in record numbers are becoming bitter, over stressed cat ladies who die alone. All for selfish pride and an extra gucci bag.

What should've been done is something more realistic: That he was the scientist who brought his loving and supportive wife to the future and they noticed how the West has declined, rebukes the status quo, then travels back to do everything in their power to change the future with success in the end. Hopefully The Daily Wire or Angel studios will do something of the sort so the movie can really sell.

The acting was unfortunately very bad

The acting was both bad and very cliché. Besides, it was obvious that there was no chemistry between the actors. It was a shame because the subject was not bad, especially the transformation of gender relations, women's rights, gender equality, etc.

The holes in the script are also among the unnecessary flaws. The childishness in the technological and theoretical explanations is perhaps tolerable, but I'm not sure if the ridicules of the 'time machine' operation was necessary. Still, it's a watchable film for those who want to see an example of modern Mexican cinema. I hope we can see new, more mature examples of Mexican cinema.

It's ok

I think the genre isn't right; it's not a Sci-fi film. I think it carries a message of gender ideology, and it's not right to categorize it as something it isn't, as that can create false expectations. The film dubbing and makeup, especially at the end, are very poor. But I think the final message, some of the acting, and the essence of the film aren't bad; On the contrary, it sends a very powerful message about the role of women in society, the generation gap, the women relevance in society today, and the path women have taken through the time. And no, I'm not the one who thinks that the movies has to send a message, but I think the message of this movie is a good one.

Off to a good start but became corny

It started off well, but then it became a bit corny. As a woman, I find feminism has become tiresome, it's overdone and increasingly feels like yet another narrative being pushed, especially in ways that influence young people. Everyone is shaped by their surroundings, and I don't think it's healthy for young people to be encouraged to express themselves sexually. Many people are uncomfortable with that. In fact, a lot of people are unhappy with the present, which is why they yearn for the past.

There's a growing nostalgia for the 1990s, even among younger people who never lived through it. This film treats modern times as if they're somehow superior, when in reality they often feel disconnected and artificial. Many people sense that something isn't quite right.

It would have been far more satisfying if, after everything, the protagonist realised her career hadn't brought her real meaning. That, in fact, she had been contributing to a system-driven by technology-that made people sicker and more isolated. She missed out on the love and connection that truly matter. Instead, she ends up on dating apps, where interactions feel shallow and transactional-men seem to be waiting for the next option to excite them. Everything around her lacks depth and fails to promote healthy values, and people are left feeling depressed.

These kinds of storylines seem to be used and promoted more than others, as if to calm the public to make them feel that their dissatisfaction is wrong or misplaced. They want people to see this as normal and right, when deep down we feel like it's wrong.
