Marathi film Review: Jilabi screening in cinemas halls near you!!

A rare diversion from the usual rona dhona & preachy Marathi films seen nowdays , Jilabi is a slickly directed mystery crime thriller drama starring Swapnil Joshi, Prasad Oak and Shivani Surve.

A corrupt police officer ACP Vijay Karmarkar (Swapnil Joshi) is given the charge of investigating the murder of Ashutosh (Abhijit Dulgach), the son-in-law of a rich business family - the Subhedar's. As Vijay interrogates Saurav Subhedar (Prasad Oak), his wife, Janhavi (Shivani Surve), his twin brother, Gaurav Subhedar (Prasad Oak again), and their manager , Patil (Ganesh Yadav) the case becomes as convoluted as the proverbial Jilabi and hence the name .

As the body count starts rising , it is up to Vijay to keep his wits intact , get over a personal tragedy and bring the perps to justice!!

Right from the first frame, the film is incredibly fast-paced and gripping, making it hard to look away even for a moment. The storytelling is tight and efficient, with no room for unnecessary distractions. Every scene feels purposeful and adds value to the narrative, a rare feat in Marathi cinema these days.

Swapnil Joshi as a badass cop looks awesome, a refreshing change from the characters that he normally essays. Prasad Oak & Shivani Surve too have played their parts well.

On the flip side there are some bad actors too who pull the film down a bit. However leaving those small flaws aside, the film is definitely worth a dekho.

Going with 3 stars out of 5 for this one .. and adding an additional 0.5 star to the makers for attempting to do something different!!
