Lack of Realistic Childhood Depth in the Film

One of the biggest weaknesses of this film is the way the child character is portrayed. He has no trace of his past-no memories of his previous life, no friends, no home, no toys, no connection to the completely different environment where he was born and raised, and not even a natural attachment to his mother. It feels as if he was born into this family and in Mardin at that very moment, with no emotional or psychological impact from his past. This lack of depth makes the character unrealistic and unconvincing. A child's past, especially in a story like this, should shape their behavior, emotions, and interactions. It would have been much more believable if the filmmakers had consulted a child psychologist to ensure a more natural and psychologically accurate depiction of the child's experiences and reactions.

that heals without asking

Title: Love That Heals Without Asking

Review:

In Uzak Sehir, the relationship between Aliya and Cihan is a masterclass in emotional storytelling.

Aliya, once guarded and emotionally distant, slowly begins to adapt to Cihan. Not because he demanded change, but because he quietly stayed. He did not try to break her walls; he simply waited until she let him in.

Cihan matched her silence and respected her pain. Through that silent understanding, love grew - not with drama, but with patience and healing.

This is not a love that fights pain, but a love that embraces it and transforms it.

True love does not conquer. It heals.

Rating: 6.5 out of 10.

From Frustration to Fascination: How Uzak Sehir Won Me Over"

From 6.0 to 8.0

Update 10/3/25 ! It's fascinating how our perceptions of a series can evolve over time. Initially, Uzak Sehir didn't captivate me a 100% but by episode 5, I found myself becoming a major fan. The actress portraying Alya, Sinem Ünsal, improved significantly as the series progressed, perhaps due to a reduction in her earlier tendency to pout.

The supporting cast adds depth to the narrative, even characters like Mine. However, Cihan's continuous deceit towards Alya is frustrating. He forbids her from meeting other men for simple activities like coffee, yet maintains a secret relationship himself. His anger when Alya discovers this hypocrisy, especially after she directly questioned him and he lied, is particularly aggravating.

Another source of annoyance is Sadakat. While the actress delivers a commendable performance, the character's persistent hypocrisy and bullying towards Alya lack justification. The primary antagonist seems to be Cihan's mother, whose animosity towards Alya appears baseless and shifts inconsistently, reflecting the scriptwriters' whims. Her contradictory desires-wanting a grandchild but rejecting Deniz and opposing Alya-without allowing Deniz to leave, despite hiding his true lineage as Emcel's grandson, highlight a lack of character development. These inconsistencies can be exasperating, and the writing sometimes feels lacking in coherence.

I hope the writers can develop Sadakat's character, possibly fostering an alliance with Alya, similar to the positive development seen with Alya. Regarding Cihan and Alya's relationship, it might be more compelling if they divorced and then genuinely fell in love, introducing a "tragic lovers who can't be together" trope. Currently, there's a power imbalance due to Alya's ignorance of Deniz's true paternity and Cihan's deceit.

Uzak Sehir has evolved into a series that keeps me engaged, and I look forward to seeing how the characters and plotlines develop in future episodes.

There are also less scenes with the child actor, which I approve of.

-- Review before 10/03/25 (6.0)The show has an absolutely interesting premise-who doesn't love a good enemies-to-lovers storyline? Unfortunately, the female lead Sinem Ünsal , makes it difficult to fully enjoy the narrative or the romance with the male lead. Her constant overacting and exaggerated facial expressions make it hard to take her character seriously, and at times, it's downright cringe-worthy to watch.

The male lead Ozan Akbaba while not conventionally hottie material imho (compared to other Turkish actors like Can Yaman or Akin Akinözu for example), brings enough charisma and talent to his role to sell the romance and carry his part of the story. However, it's not enough to fully balance out the issues with his co-star.

On top of that, the female lead's appearance is a major distraction. Having watched plenty of Turkish dramas, I've grown accustomed to the leads often having cosmetic enhancements, but her overly noticeable lip fillers combined with her lackluster acting make it hard to connect with her character. It's disappointing that casting directors seem to prioritize a "plastic" look over real talent-though this is the first time it's truly bothered me to this extent.

The child actor playing the son adds another layer of frustration. Not only is the character written as a brat who doesn't seem to have much affection for his mother, but the storyline involving him feels forced and unengaging. It reminds me of Dolunay, where the child character often detracted from the more compelling interactions between the leads.

Despite these drawbacks, I'll likely keep watching to see if things improve. However, I can't help but wish they had cast the actress playing Chihan's sister (Sahra Sas ) as the lead-or just someone more talented overall than the actress portraying Alya.

Finally something close to intensity of Cukur

I made the mistake of ignoring this superb series because of their poster, thinking that it will be a lazy family drama with a kid involved.

Finally when I gave it a try, I was blown away from the very first episode. It gripped me from the srat to the available last episode. Music is also phenomenal and very well complement the fast pace story.

No dragging moments, no rubbish to stretch the episodes, pure entertainment with mysterious plot twists and decent action. I believe story will unfold and it will turn into an action packed series.

Have not find anything after Cukur but so far it has the potential to reach to that level.

Watch and appreciate the quality

I'm not a big fan of Turkish series, which I sometimes find too "cliché", and this one combines all the ingredients to keep people on the edge of their seats and hooked.

The characters of Alya and Cihan are endearing, and their explosive "relationship" makes us want more.

The dynamics of the other actors, in addition to their touching stories where we feel for each of them, not to mention the breathtaking scenery of Mardin, make this show a gem.

You'll love the slow burn between Cihan and Alya, you'll feel sad for the fate of the characters, you'll be caught up in the tribal conflicts, Sadakat and Ecmel's hatred, Demir's revenge, Mine's jealousies and, strangely, you'll love hating the antagonists... The episodes are fluid and the acting is good, so go for it, guys!

The New Serie Uzak Sehir

"Uzak Sehir" sounds like a captivating adaptation of Al Hayba, with a unique storyline bridging Canada and Mardin. The narrative, centered on Alya's journey to fulfill her late husband's last wish, explores the intricate dynamics of the Albora family while unraveling the dangers of their world. The enchanting backdrop of Mardin Midyat adds depth to the storytelling, enhancing its visual and emotional appeal.

As Halil Ozdemir, a merchant involved in this dramatic tale, I had the privilege of contributing to this compelling production. The performances of Ozan Akbaba and Sinem Unsal stand out, delivering powerful and authentic portrayals of their characters. The realistic dialogues and dramatic narrative leave a lasting impression, making Uzak Sehir not just a story but an experience.

bridge to mardin

It's a great series, even though I normally hate watching TV series/movies, it hooked me. Everyone tries to fulfill their roles in the best way possible and I think they show excellent acting. I can't give spoilers, but I definitely recommend you to watch it. I want to talk briefly about the subject. Ayla's husband Boran dies in a traffic accident. Ayla and her son Deniz Cihan come to Mardin with the funeral, but the Alboras do not allow them to return. If I explain the rest, it will be a spoiler. Be sure to watch it. A movie broadcast on Kanal D, distant city by the way. My favorite characters Ayla ,deniz cihan.

Depressing to watch

An OK story, I'm still watching it BUT it's one of those turkish series that is depressing to watch, perhaps it's the arid location? Or the mood? Or the actors who look tired? Or all.

I don't understand who are the antagonists and protagonists, although watching it up to now, it looks like Cihan's mafia Albor family is the antagonist.

As with all other turkish series, there must always be a central annoying character to tease the audience, the old Albor woman (a second rate version of the exceptional Ayda Aksel), then it would trickle down to some of the characters - the loud shrieking old woman from the other Albor family, and the female lead (Alya) whose uninspiring acting involves different levels of mouth wincing, twitching and lips pouting.

Watching until the latest episode 23, this series is concentrated more on the forbidden love angle - the forbidden love of nearly all the casts including that of the housemaid and the fat guy, the mafia story is gone and so are the other stuffs present in the beginning of the series. I'm considering dropping this series out of my watch list as there are better new ones that came out i.e. The more gripping Sustali Ceylan, Esref Ruya has more mafia actions. Leyla is getting more exciting, and Siyah Kalp too.

Far City but Close to Heart

Fascinating characters, gripping storyline and exotic scenery makes this series addictive.

The character Alya is strong and brave, admirable and mature beyond her age. She is fearless and a protective, loving mother. Cihan is dedicated and respectful, works constantly at trying to please and protect his loved ones. I adore Kaya's unfaltering love for Zerrin and am touched by the impossible love story between Sahin and Nare. Even the "villains" are amazing to watch. Madame Sadakat may seem cruel and cold, but that actress is surely playing her role immaculately. She is chilling and beautiful at the same time. The character, Demir is nasty, but he seems to have a playful side that keeps him somehow enjoyable to watch. The side characters are also funny and endearing. Kadir is a riot, and has me rolling every time he is talking on the phone with his mouth full...or stealing food from the kitchen! It would be a crime not to mention the young actor who plays little Cihan (Deniz). I could listen to that cute guy all day. He is adorable. I also would like to mention my appreciation for the use of dialect. It is not cliché nor cartoonish, but just adds to the characters' believability.

All that was just about the characters. But the characters without a storyline is lost. The plot is gripping and often heart wrenching. The series is intense and moving yet often times comical and clever. From the first show, I was hooked. To think that this bright woman would be trapped in a land that was foreign to her, and at risk of losing her son is unimaginable. The obstacles she has endured is dumbfounding. What Cihan is going through, as he protects his family, is also crazy. It's a lot, but it makes the show exciting.

I am eagerly looking forward to each new episode.

Dry and tired

This is series is different from the usual Istanbul series. It's shot in the historical Mardin and Midyat, been there I loved the place but too monochromatic for a TV series.

As usual and similar to other turkish series, the elder characters in this one are extremely annoying. Don't get me wrong, they're good actors, the characters are villainous. The main story revolves around impermissible relationships of the members of the two families which started from the elders, now, similar fate passed onto the sons and daughters. In the beginning I thought it's full of actions, at least in the first episode, then onward, nothing but cunning matriarchs, women repressions.

The female lead actor is pretty though her lips are getting in the way of my concentration.

I got bored, stopped watching this series.

CihAl & Uzak Sehir: A Love Story That Stole My Heart

Uzak Sehir is just...WOW! I'm practically vibrating with anticipation for each new episode! Seriously, it's like I'm right there with them, feeling every single emotion. The visuals are absolutely stunning, but it's the raw, genuine emotions that truly grab you and pull you into their world.

And CihAl... swoon! Alya and Cihan? They're everything I could ever want in a couple! The chemistry between them is absolutely incredible! You can practically feel the sparks flying through the screen. Every stolen glance, every hesitant touch, every shared moment, it's just perfect! I'm completely and utterly invested in their journey! Please, writers, I'm begging you, give them a happy ending! They deserve it more than anything!

The whole cast is amazing! They bring such depth and authenticity to their roles, making every scene feel so real, like you're watching real life unfold before you. And the music? Oh my goodness, the music! It hits you right in the heart every time, perfectly amplifying the emotions on screen. The setting is portrayed with such care and attention to detail, it's truly beautiful and adds so much to the story.

I love how the show manages to balance the drama with those heartwarming, tender moments. It's not just about sadness and conflict! It's about hope, connection, and the beautiful, unexpected places where love can be found. I'm really hoping they avoid any unnecessary, dark, and contrived drama! CihAl deserves all the happiness in the world! Their love is too precious and pure to be ruined by cheap plot twists!

Honestly, Uzak Sehir is more than just a show; it's a complete and immersive experience. It makes you feel things deeply, it makes you believe in the power of love, and it leaves you longing for more. If you haven't watched it yet, you absolutely need to! You won't regret it for a single second! I'm completely and utterly obsessed, and I know you will be too! CihAl forever! They are the real deal.

Old World Meets New World Spectacularly

This dizi is spectacular. Beginning with the musical score to the amazing geography, ruins, ancient stone buildings, it takes you to another world. The acting of the case particularly the two leads is wonderful, their connection is palatable, consistently going beyond their scripted dialogue with their expressions and lingering camera shots of their looks.

The story of a woman who has been brought up in Canada after her parent's death, completes medical school, gets married, has a son, comes to the family of her deceased husband to the Albora lands of Mardin. She is forced to stay in Mardin with her five year old son and then forced to marry his brother. Aya is one of the most wonderful female characters of any dizi. She exudes agency in everything she says and does. Chian is also an interesting man who has had to live only for this family with the burden of a hostile matriarch mother who is ruthless. Watching the attraction of the newly married couple is wild. They both repress their innate feelings with so much realism, and there are various back stories that keep coming up bringing more depth to the story. It is exciting and warm and a true thriller filled with history of a tribal Turkey that still exists.

Excitement overload

I started watching this series, episode 1 was promising, but then the story somehow focused to romantic angles that seemed unromantic.

Too much display of abuse and persecution of women. Immorality. There's this woman romantical having relationship with another guy whilst married, Another woman in-love with another guy but got married to another guy due to circumstances, the female lead married the brother of his deceased husband, even the elder woman has her own secret.

I can't watch this. This isn't the type of excitement I want from a TV series. Location is bleak, actors look tired, story is sad and miserable.

Wow what a serie✨✨

This is honestly a serie that keeps me excited for every Monday which is a day that I usually hate!

The story, the chemistry between Alya and Cihan, the side characters and the environment as a whole is amazing! This show is pure magic, with its amazing story and unforgettable characters, and moments that stay with you long efter it ends. It really is impossible to stop watching it.

It's now one of my favourite series and i recommend everyone to watch it. I always watch Turkish series and this one is one of the breathtaking ones. It really leaves an indelible mark on the soul. A masterpiece so far!

AWFUL AND STUPID AND VERY BAD ACTING

I started this series with hope - episode 1 seemed promising. But very quickly, the storyline veered into awkward and unconvincing romantic entanglements that felt more uncomfortable than engaging.

The show is filled with themes of abuse, betrayal, and immorality. Married characters pursuing affairs, forced relationships, and morally questionable decisions dominate the plot. Even the elder characters come with their own secrets, which adds more confusion than depth.

The setting is bleak, the atmosphere heavy, and the actors often appear exhausted - mirroring how I felt watching it. This isn't the kind of drama that excites or inspires. It left me feeling drained and disappointed. Definitely not what I was looking for in a series.

That's what I want.

Honestly, the only thing that makes me happy is Ozan Akbaba he is one of the best actors in Turkey's history and I have seen his previous works he is amazing actor. I think his acting skills are really outstanding. Also the woman is playing the mother role she is amazing and she knows what she is doing and she is burning her role in series. Moreover, The heroine Sinem Ünsal what a wonderful woman she is very talented woman I love her role and her character. To conclude, best thing about this series is the the location of this series Mardin a wonderful city I had been there before and I loved that city.

Beautiful TV show

I luv this series. Every episode is exciting. Pls continue for many more seasons. I look 4ward 2 the next episode. This TV show is my favourite because there is so much going n I applaud the actors performance, absolutely fantastic. Alya n Jihan's character has reached a stage where I just want them to admit their luv 4 one another. I have watched so many Turkish TV series n this is my best. I wish Minay dd not have to get pregnant because I want Alya to give an heir to Jihan. Pls write a script where Miney has a miscarriage. I was disappointed when her character was made pregnant. Pls change.

Too boring for my liking

How would I describe this series?

Dehydrated. Exhausted. Dry as a dust. Drained.

Yes, this one drains dry a viewer's energy. It's not entertaining, it's sucking you into the abyss of restlessness.

Couple of initial episodes suggest promising action-packed TV series, it wasn't. The story revolves around the conflict between 2 families which started from the failed love affair of the elders and this unromantic drama drizzled down to the sons and daughters. Nare Albora is having an affair with Sahin Albora (yes, they the same last name, up to current episode 26 I still don't understand their consanguinity or affinity) whilst married to another guy. Zerrin Albora is having an affair with Kaya Albora (again, same last name, they're probably cousins?) while married to another guy.

The main male character Cihan married Alya, his sister-in-law, who was married to Cihan's brother who passed away. There's too much entanglements in the complicated plot. This series story is about forbidden love affairs.

Actors' characters (even the actors themselves) in this series looks drained, tired and hopeless. The old Albora woman's character is one to annoy the lead female and anger the emotions of viewers, this is a staple turkish series formula present in most series.

The female lead, very poor acting skills, she looks good but still the marginal acting skill does not compensate.

Location is spectacular for tourism yet somehow it added to the overall exhausted ambiance.

Do I like it? No. Am I watching it? Yes. I'm watching 6 turkish series weekly and this one is at the bottom of the list. I only watch it if there's time and playing at 1.5 speed.

The best Turkish TV series of recent years

Uzak Sehir is the series that made me sit in front of the television after many years. Due to the long duration of Turkish TV series, I am a watcher who follows the series on the internet, although I have not followed any Turkish TV series regularly for almost the last 5 years. However, I started watching this series by chance. Now I find myself watching the series all the time.

Actually, it looks like a classic Turkish series. But I think there is a great chemistry and harmony between the leads. This makes the viewer even more attached to the series. Sinem Ünsal and Ozan akbaba show great acting. The side characters of the series are also very successful. In addition, no topic in the series is unnecessarily prolonged, no secret lasts for chapters. Topics are finished at the point where they should be finished and the new chapter is started, which makes the series more exciting. For this reason, I can really say that it is the best Turkish series I have watched in recent years.

I wish I could say more, but....

Actually, there's not much to rave about this series Uzak Sehir. It's a story of complicated romance and love affairs and relationships of the main characters. Forbidden love of sorts because of the clash of families who despised each other due to past events with the elderlies.

If you think there is a mafia action as the first episode portrays? No. Nothing of that sort, they're just pseudo, a pretense to portray a gripping plot to stimulate interest in the viewers.

The actors are good to be fair. The ML has an old charisma, classic charm If I may say, some good male supporting characters. Female, not much, not those pretty faces you always see on TV series. The FL, how would I frame this? Good looks but lack acting skills, which in general involves flipping of the hair, head, several variation of lips movements. The old lady character is a pestilence, more talks and screams but less grip and power, they just cast her there to annoy the FL and the viewers.

I wish I could say praises but I am not convinced.

Something you definitly won't regret watching

I recently started watching the series, and it's quickly become a standout in my weekly lineup. Even as someone who tends to be critical of storytelling and production quality, I've found myself completely captivated.

The direction is nothing short of masterful, blending rich character arcs with stunning cinematography that brings the narrative to life. The music, featuring the Qanun and other instruments, adds an authentic and emotional depth that elevates every scene. It's more than just a soundtrack; it's a storytelling tool that enriches the atmosphere and draws you in.

What impresses me most is the intricate character development and how convincingly the actors embody them. Their performances are so sincere that you don't just watch their stories, you feel them. The writers have created multidimensional characters whose struggles, triumphs, and conflicts feel incredibly real. Even the antagonists are layered with nuance, making their motives understandable, even relatable. This complexity invites viewers to see the story from multiple angles, making the experience both emotionally resonant and intellectually engaging.

Overall, Uzak Sehir is a masterclass in storytelling. Its deliberately measured pacing lends a sense of realism, allowing each moment to breathe and resonate. I genuinely look forward to every new episode.
