Great start that ends on a whimper

Storyline: Episodes 1 to 5 : superb. It hooks you in and can binge watch.

Episodes 6 to 10 : decent Episodes 11, 12 : worst. Can't imagine it is the same drama.

Why does it still get a 7 rating: Acting: top notch from everyone involved in all the episodes. Especially the leads. Their chemistry is off the charts.

Music: suits the drama perfectly. You can listen to it in loop. See the light song from the drama is one of the best ones that has come out recently.

Cinematography: extremely well done on how they depict different moods and settings Direction : Saves the weak Story line across the episodes.

Watch the first 11 episode and skip the last one

From 10 to an 8.

This was a great K Drama until the final episode.

I was hooked until episode 12 and I'm like what the heck happened? It was a complete turnaround. It did not make sense. I don't know what the production team was thinking. There are no spoilers here as I want to hear if other reviewers thought the same.

I don't want to spoil it, but my suggestion would be is to watch the first 11 episode and let it end there.

Don't bother watching episode 12 it would be a shame to say episode 12 was part of this amazing K drama. Whoever is on the production team that decided to greenlight episode 12 should be fired.

Please form your own judgments

Overall, I really enjoyed this series and was a little surprised to see some of the negative reviews about it. To be fair, I am an English-speaking person and only started getting into K-dramas last year, so I watched this entire series with closed captions. I liked the relationship between the main characters-yes, some parts were a little "cheesy," but overall, I thought their relationship was cute. I even found myself laughing at the villain, thinking, "When is this guy going to die? He has more than nine lives!" The one part of the series I didn't like was the ending. The last episode felt almost like a completely different plot, and I'm not sure why the writers went in that direction. Honestly, the series could have ended at the 11th episode.

That said, I still found the series pretty entertaining overall. I encourage you to form your own opinion rather than being influenced by the negative comments.

Fun, Exciting, Romance

This show hooked me from the beginning. The actors were amazing. I see some gave it a bad rating for the ending but the show as a whole was well done. The ending was rushed but still a great watch. It was a romantic thriller which is exactly what is was supposed to be. Loved the music and the escape. It's not a serious drama but a fun one. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a romance like a romance novel. The characters are beautiful and sexy. The plot is creative and not your typical kdrama which I like. It's not my favorite kdrama but certainly a very entertaining one. It's worth the watch if you are into that genre.

Whyyyy even did they need that last episode?!

This was on par with other Korean dramas. Romance. Sweetness. Easy on the eyes. Enjoyable. Bingeable...right until the last few mins of episode 11. Then it all became full on nonsense!

Episode 12 was completely unnecessary.

So watch it. It's a nice series. But stop close to the end of episode 11. You'll know at which part. I won't spoil it for you.

After that it's really, really not worth your time.

Of course, as with a K-Dramas, don't expect things to make any logical sense even from the beginning. Just enjoy it for what it is. Lots of cute scenes and characters. Beautiful background score to make you feel the warm fuzzies. Haha.

10/10 so exciting

I really loved their chemistry. Every episode hooked me to find or puzzled every scenes that I have watched. If you consistently watch the episode until the end you'll understand the flow of the drama. I hope there's season 2 for it. I want to see more of their chemistry and impressive acting between both actors. They portrayed their character well.

Soobin and Yoonseok did a great job. Thanks for this drama I was able to watch a Korean drama again for the longest time hahaha!

I hope that they will have another project again with any genre because I know that whatever character they can do their job well.

Romantic, mature, mysterious and steamy 🔥

I had to watch this, with all the hype going on and mostly all the steamy scenes that were being leaked, I hated to have it spoiled. I must say even with lots of spoilers it did not disappoint and I LOVED IT! I loved all the suspense, the first episode itself had me hooked at the climax and could not wait to watch more. I am so glad I waited for the whole show to air to watch it because I would not be able to wait for another episode.

Loved the mature couple that the main leads were and all the mysteries that lead to another even if sometimes I wanted them to be solved but it was very exciting to watch all the mysteries to be able to try to solve them in my mind. I liked the phone calling and the fact that the main couple were more modern than the normal Kdrama obviously also including their steamy scenes. I didn't mind the way it ended, for me I was happy as long as they had their happy ending and all was well again. I gave it a 10/10 because I enjoyed each and every episode and all of them were a delight to me.

Repetitive motip, exceptional chemistry

I did not expect much in a Kdrama like this when first reading the plot. The content is normally well but the chemistry and acting is too catchy and on the next level ! They potrayed the feelings, all doubts and hidden affection unbelievably soulful, especially the male. The intense in love charms the audience, a well-developed love story with Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin's perfect chemistry. I must say there are a few couples who fit their roles and their partners in such a passionate way from outward appearances to every gesture when they are together and these two are one of them. Worth the hype.

Dark Horse of Modern Korean Drama

A complete emotional experience drama with a lot of spice as it is a thriller romance. Yes, it has some flaws but the overall production and storyline is on point and made me hook from start to finish. As someone who watch hundreds of kdrama, this one will always be easily included in my top 5 best drama of all time. The main actors claimed their roles wholeheartly and gave exceptional chemistry I've been missing for a long time. Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin are treasures in the sea of korean actors. Hope to see them again in a new project. Fridays and Saturdays will never be the same without SaJu couple.

This Kdrama got me hooked, 10000/10 for me

I don't like watching an ongoing drama, I usually wait for it to be completely finished b4 I start binge watching. But this one makes me patiently wait for Fridays and Saturdays.

This Kdrama deserves 10/10 rating. My First time giving a drama a review because it deserves to be watched. The every actors in this drama needs to be recognized, they made a great portrayal of their character, specifically the main leads.

EVERY episodes has its plot twist!!! I'm here rewatching it again, it would take a while for me to start a new Kdrama to watch. I just can't get enough of it.

Kudos to Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin for great portrayal and their overflowing Chemistry.

Twists that were not Predictable

This was one that I had some issues with, but overall I wanted to go the distance. I wasn't as put off by the last episode, & as there are only 12 it was a much more endurable experience.

Wow, how much more can these rich families be dysfunctional? The dark secrets just kept being exposed & I was genuinely surprised by some twists in the plot. The kidnapper/sociopath did a good job at portraying a sense of dread. He did seem to elude the police for far too long.

The ML, Yoo Yeon-seok, & the FL, Chae Soo-bin, had reasonable enough interaction to develop a sense of a relationship. I don't know how his wife was kept secret as he was a well known celebrity who would be easy to follow.

The love triangle really didn't develop with the psychiatrist. The secondary love interests was a bit of an afterthought.

Yes, the bit in Argan at the end was a bit too much, but as in a lot of K dramas there is a period of separation..

My forever comfort drama 💓

100% amazing. The best of 2024. I was amazed by how captivating this drama was from the very first episode. I have been a fan of Yoo Yeon Seok since Mr. Sunshine and im glad he's finally receiving the popularity that he deserves. His acting is phenomenal and the way he is able to portray his emotions is just out of this world. I look forward to future dramas of his. As a long time kdrama fan, this was the first time in a few years where I was anxiously waiting for a new episode. Yearning for anything a bts picture, a pre release, ost. Just everything about this drama is perfection. Overall acting 100. Fully recommend.

Patterns in KDramas

Why is it that every KDrama I have seen recently has a messed up ending? The writer is compelled to throw a wrench or yet another far fetched twist into the story line instead of just making the story about healing and happiness? This series had me on edge every week and seemed to be on target for what we all wanted-resolution and joy for the two main characters until the last episode. The first 35-40 minutes were entirely unnecessary and didn't fold into the story well. More character development in some of the other supporting characters would have been a good idea as well. We were all rooting for other characters story line as well.

Strong start, but the story falls apart towards the end

The first half of the show is surprisingly good. I liked the cinematography, and the chemistry between the two leads is tangible. It is mainly for the acting and the perfect balance between plot and romance that I followed the show eagerly. Of course, the behaviour of the two leads is somewhat questionable right from the start. Why would a husband treat his wife like nothing when he loves her? Not even thinking about learning sign language to be able to communicate with her better? The reasoning behind that feels forced, but I looked past it, as I somehow got drawn into the drama. The mystery story felt promising, although you have to ignore unnecessary plot holes and weird behaviour early on and be patient with the overuse of typical k-drama tropes. Still, I liked the idea of a troubled married couple that finds a way to communicate to each other in an unusual way.

In the second half of the series, the story goes slowly downhill. Somehow, Hee-joo (the female lead) manages to get abducted four times over the whole show, the behaviour of the parents goes overboard, the plot itself doesn't make any sense anymore in the last two episodes.

The last episode is barely watchable. Instead of giving the leads some time to work on their relationship and their trauma, it's filled with a plot twist (which isn't really a twist at all) and some really strange decisions. There are quite a few plot devices that were just forced into the drama for suspense, without any real emotional value for the characters and the viewers.

Overall, if you watch this drama without thinking, it's an entertaining show with some strong romantic scenes. Just don't use your brain on this one.

WTPR is captivating, funny and serious at the same time

The acting is top notch from all the cast members. Great chemistry from the main leads.

YYS and CSB definitely deserve the 3 awards this drama received a.k.a best couple, best actor and best actress at the MBC awards 2024.

EP 1-10, 10/10 easily EP 1-12, 8.5/10 EP 11-12, 4/10 (4 being generous And we all know it wasn't the cast cause they delivered especially the villain in these 2 episodes)

The cast and acting was really good, and i ended up loving the kidnapper. I've beef with the writers and director and producers for messing up Ep 12 and going the book way. I hated the book end, it was so messy. But WTPR is definitely going to be an OG for me and will probably be rewatching it monthly.

From Obsession to Disappointment: This Drama Had Me Hooked... Until It Didn't

I was addicted by episode two...then I finished it

I am 10 episodes in and When the Phone Rings is definitely a new favourite K-drama. Regardless of genre, it has been ages since I have looked forward to new episodes of a series. I will admit that I was a little iffy about the first episode, but I was intrigued enough to watch the second episode and after that I was a fan. Yoo Yeon-seok and Chae Soo-bin have amazing chemistry together. I also want to mention actor Im Chul-soo who is so funny and adorable in his role. The actors, the drama, the romance, and the action are what have me planted to the couch each episode (and I am someone who gets distracted rather easily). If you like romance and great chemistry, give this one a watch.

Edit: After finishing this series I am disappointed in the final episode. I have no idea what they were thinking. It's like a completely different writer was responsible for episode 12. The disappearance? The war-torn country? Why?! Maybe just watch the first 11 episodes and have the last one on in the background.

Cherry on top!!

Honestly,i always look into about contract marriage drama and found this is the best one that i've ever watched.. Watch it from the first episode and a lot of plot twist makes the viewers curious about what happens next episode.. Romance -thriller with a little bit fun comedy and suspense really suit along for the whole drama.

Despite the controversy, i hope peoples not judging this drama based on the last episode..also i hope people will look into and enjoyed this drama from the very first episode, not just jump into conclusion for the last episode..i really enjoyed this drama, thriller not so heavy, thats the best.

Also all character are also very well played by the cast.. to simplify it, dont spread hatred just gives love and support, dont be too serious about the drama..it just drama after all..love.

Is this show a walking red flag? Absolutely. But.....

I'm an unapologetic K-drama addict at this point, and honestly, I've made peace with it. Is this show a walking red flag? Absolutely. But did I still binge it like my life depended on it? Also yes. Sometimes you just need a guilty pleasure watch, and this one delivers the dram, and the questionable relationship choices.

The show started off much better than it ended-the mystery it set up in the beginning was so promising, but then the plot just dissolved into a messy soup toward the end. And don't even get me started on those intense scenes between the male and female leads, where they tried to make things steamy but ended up serving pure cringe. The slow-motion, the awkward execution-I haven't secondhand-cringed this hard in years. And the male lead's angry face in those slow-mo shots? I lost count of how many times I burst out laughing.

That said, I actually think Netflix did a better job than the webtoon (cue the angry purists coming for me). Oh, and speaking of binge-worthy chaos, When the Phone Rings? Finished that in one day. No regrets.

The best one

I personally think this is the best K-drama I've seen so far. It's in my top 5.

Great actors, great team I mean... I was excited when I first watched the trailer and that's why I decided to subscribe to Netflix again hahahaha just to watch this drama and for me none of every single episode was boring but exiting.

I was going crazy just to have to wait every week to find out what's going on but the wait worth it. I liked how all their worries were all solved at the end and they could live a happy ending. So I truly recommend this drama and for me I'm going to watch yoo yeon-seok and chae soo-bins' dramas cuz I loved them in this one.
