I just watched the first episode, Katmai. It was very good, but the purpose of the program seemed a bit muddled. I was expecting the focus to be primarily on the park and I was very interested since I was unfamiliar with Katmai. Instead, the primary focus was on a few animal species (brown bears, gray wolves, salmon, and plover) and the writers tried to tell a nature story by following a couple of animal families.
Please don't misunderstand me. The writers described the park and its history. But that only accounted for about 1/4 to 1/3 of the airtime. So I was left wondering - Is this a program about US national parks or is it a nature show? And if it's a nature show, then what about all the other animal species? Surely there must be elk, moose, wolverines, etc. In Katmai, but they were never mentioned.
I'm going to watch a few more episodes to see where this series lands. But right now I don't know exactly what the writers are trying to showcase.
By the way, I just watched the first episode of Aerial America a few weeks ago, and it wasn't very good. But I've loved every other episode that I've seen over the years. Hopefully National Parks USA will be the same way.
