Bhumi is a disaster. Their meet-cute is awkward, their banter forced, and their romance, the supposed emotional anchor of the show, is the weakest link.
Pednekar, capable of far more textured performances, is saddled with a character who swings from headstrong entrepreneur to helpless mess depending on what the script requires.
Khatter, meanwhile, gives it his all-brooding over his family legacy one minute, playing shirtless beach polo the next - but the writing gives him precious little to work with. His most compelling scenes are with his horse, which, frankly, displays more emotional range than most of the ensemble.

I was excited to watch this series as it looked like the perfect show for glamorous, dramatic, and romantic elements within a royal family.
While it was glamorous (great costume, set, and makeup) it lacked everything else. Ishaan Khatter, Vihaan Samat and Sakshi Tanwar carried this show completely.
I was very disappointed in the script writing because it lacked depth and proper transition of scenes. Dialogue was okay, but there were countless scenes where it was extremely poor and despite the good acting by those mentioned above, it felt awkward because of the dialogue.
I was also really disappointed with Bhumi Pednekar's acting. I love the previous movies she has been in, but she could not emote the expressions that were required to carry the chemistry between her and Ishaan, nor could you tell if she was mad, sad, jealous, etc.
The story picked up in the last few episodes and I am looking forward to the new season. But with that, if there is a season 2, it really needs a better writer and screenplay.

I just finished watching this series, and immediately I felt like it's a very bad casting or I can say pairing of the main actors. The age difference of Bhumi and Ishan is clearly visible. Also there is no great story or suspense they have created. Everything is too predictable. I was actually waiting for the series but now I'm disappointed, it was very weird to see their chemistry even nora's charector was also not going well with Ishan. Although Ishan acted very well. I liked the acting of Sakshi, it could be a great series if there would be a good story and very good casting. I saw milind soman is also in the series but his screentime is almost zero, wish he would have much bigger role.

Bhumi's performance and dialogue delivery were severely lacking. She neither looked nor carried herself like a CEO, and her portrayal fell far short of what the role demanded. Instead of projecting authority and sophistication, her performance came across as immature and unconvincing-more fitting for a teenager than the head of a company. Unfortunately, she just didn't suit the role.
Ishaan Khattar truly excelled in the role, delivering a performance that was both captivating and authentic. He effortlessly embodied the character's regal presence and natural charm, making every scene feel rich and compelling. His portrayal brought a sense of depth and vitality that made the character not just believable, but mesmerizing to watch.
The storyline is lacking and there's a lot of misses, for an example, episode 8, the CEO doesn't even know how to use SUM function in an excel. Come on, who uses manual addition in excel. The makers didn't even do their research behind every scene.

Great canvas and initial idea but failed script, screenplay and acting. Exhausting watch, absolute cringe-fest.
I'm not sure if Bhoomi's character is meant to be 10 years younger than the actor or if Ishaan's character is meant to be 10 years older. Completely feels out of place and forced conflict and chemistry, just bad..
The screenplay and dialogues destroy what is an opportunity to showcase relatively good lighting, color, and set design..peasing to the eye.. The forced 'steaminess' or sensuality angle just seems incredibly unnecessary!
An absolute opportunity to build genuinelly good characters out of the royal siblings absolutely wasted.
A little depth and character development would've gone a long way.
The Royals is a shallow waste of time.

It was so bad. This is my first ever rating in 28 years of being. Imagine the cringe I had to endure to be here. Another one was Nadaniyaan but thank god I shut that off in 2 minutes. The dialogues were too slow, no one was even remotely funny and the actor's holier than thou attitude killed me from inside. You guys will not believe that to just complete the number of characters for this review I'm still going on, imagine how pathetic this tv series actually was. Not even Milind could save this one with his ghostly presence on the screen. But what do I know, I could barely finish one episode. Thankyou.

This series is a letdown from start to finish. The storyline is highly predictable, and the overall execution lacks originality or depth. Bhumi Pednekar is a Royal misfit - her performance feels forced, and she fails to bring any emotional authenticity to the screen. Her presence becomes more irritating than impactful.
Zeenat Aman, a legend of Indian cinema, is sadly wasted in a role that adds little to the plot. Casting such an iconic actress for a throwaway part makes no sense and feels like a missed opportunity.
The only saving grace here are Sakshi Tanwar and Ishaan Khatter, who bring genuine energy and conviction to their roles. They both make the series slightly watchable, but unfortunately, even their combined efforts can't rescue this poorly written and poorly cast show.

Ishan khater full 8/10
Bhumi pednekar 1/10
Zeenat aman 3/10
Sakshi Tanwar 5/10
Vihaan samat 8/10
Sumukhi Suresh 3/10
A big turnoff .Bhumi doesn't fit big screen.
Story line is average and predictable .why did they cast Khattar with aunty.
Bhumi looks cold and dead in every role she plays .her only USP is reducing weight and looking lean. Otherwise she never looks appealing . She has no chemistry with other characters in fact even with the main lead actor
Unnecessary fund raisers and parties just to fill in spaces .
Boring side characters makes it a sleepy series .
Ishan khater must choose scripts wisely he is an all rounder talented actor.

All is good except Bhoomi Pednekar...it seems she has forgotten to act plus she looks ugly on screen now. The only time I enjoyed the series was when Bhoomi was not on screen... even the support cast and junior actors have done a great job only disappointment was Bhoomi Pednekar. Ishan Khattar was outstanding.
All other actors were great, story line was fine everything was ok but female lead could have been different... Bhoomi Pednekar has started looking like a plastic skeleton... She should go back to acting school learn everything again eat some food and then should do a comeback for now it sucked.

I dont understand why everyone is hating honestly it was fun, light, entertaining. Might be biased but enemies to lovers? Slow burn? Eye candy guy with rizz? Good locations and outfits? No cringe dialogues (referring to naadaniyan) COUNT ME IN!
It was good if you watch it "chaltay phirtay" i wasnt so excited about it because i thought it would be like "tumhara naam arjun sharma hai kiya?" But they proved me wrong and i honestly quite enjoyed it. It was a mix of karan johar's style direction, fun soundtracks, realistic characters (okay maybe bhumis lip fillers were getting in the way, but if you ignore them) its really enjoyable.

I honestly don't understand the hate this series is getting. The Royals might not be Oscar material, but not every show has to be. It's entertaining, it doesn't take itself too seriously, and sometimes that's exactly what we need.
The lead actress is refreshing - she doesn't fit the usual Bollywood beauty standards, and she's not a nepo baby, which makes her success even more impressive. She brings something authentic and relatable to the screen, and that's rare.
The story is fun, not dramatic in the best way, and perfect for when you just want to relax and enjoy a lighthearted escape. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.

No storyline No good performance. Only and only overacting. It loses its grasp from even start and not a single line or scene is there which does not bore you. Just a waste of time. If Netflix make such more 2 or 3 series I am gonna uninstall the app. None of the actor shows seriousness in acting and just standing there to anyhow complete the scene. Please watch at your risk and if you have nothing to do. Even you can sleep watching this. What a waste of time. Netflix please be serious in content. Nothing new in the show. Nothing good in the show. No story no acting what is this made by Netflix and how can you pay someone to make this s*it.

One of the most glaring issues with this show is the noticeable lack of chemistry between the leads, especially due to the main actress's underwhelming performance. It's hard to invest in a relationship or storyline when the emotional weight doesn't land. Her delivery often feels wooden and forced, taking the audience out of the moment rather than pulling them in. Unfortunately, her lack of acting skill makes what could have been compelling scenes seem almost painful to watch.
Equally distracting is the significant age gap between the lead actor and actress. While it's not uncommon for relationships in TV series to involve older actors opposite younger actresses, here the disparity feels glaring. The actor, who is far more seasoned, seems to carry the entire weight of the show on his shoulders. At certain points, his character is almost infantilized, portrayed as a 'cub'-a term that undercuts any potential maturity or depth his role could have had. This dynamic makes it harder to buy into the supposed romantic or even professional connection between them, as it feels imbalanced and somewhat forced.
While the series offers a strong premise and interesting secondary characters, it's hard to overlook how the lead pairing drags the narrative down. The lack of solid acting chops from the lead actress combined with the awkward age gap leaves the show feeling more uncomfortable than entertaining, preventing it from reaching its full potential.

Netflix's The Royals, starring Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar, is one of those shows that looks like a glossy, high-budget soap but feels like a poorly scripted high school play with royal costumes. It promises drama, grandeur, romance, and cultural fusion-but what it delivers is a painfully bloated, cliché-ridden mess that leaves you wondering how so much talent ended up trapped in such a tone-deaf production.
Let's start with the basics: the plot. Or rather, the total lack of a compelling one. The Royals follows Prince Aviraaj Singh (Ishaan Khatter), a moody, brooding royal stuck in an identity crisis, and Sophia Shekhar (Bhumi Pednekar), a hyper-successful startup founder who's basically written as a LinkedIn motivational post come to life. They're thrown together in a setup so forced, so awkwardly executed, it makes arranged marriage tropes in 90s TV shows seem progressive. What could have been a refreshing take on tradition vs modernity quickly devolves into a melodramatic slideshow of slow-motion stares, overwritten monologues, and painfully long silences meant to appear "intense."
The dialogue is another crime altogether. Every conversation feels like it's been copied and pasted from a rejected daily soap script, then run through an Instagram influencer's quote generator. You'll hear characters say things like "Love is war... but I've already surrendered" with the kind of gravity that might work if you weren't too busy rolling your eyes into the next scene. There's no subtlety, no wit-just a constant stream of overwrought lines delivered with dead seriousness.
Then there's the acting. It's not that Khatter and Pednekar are bad actors-they've both proven their chops elsewhere-but here, they're given so little to work with that it's like watching two talented chefs try to cook using plastic food. Khatter does his best Prince Harry-meets-Desi-Dilwale routine, alternating between brooding silence and emotional outbursts that seem more like tantrums. Pednekar, meanwhile, is given a character so poorly written and inconsistently empowered, you wonder if three different writers wrote her arc without talking to each other.
Their chemistry? Nonexistent. Watching them try to portray romantic tension is like watching two coworkers stuck in a Zoom breakout room after everyone else leaves-awkward, forced, and begging to end.
The only redeeming elements are the visuals. The palaces are opulent, the outfits are dazzling, and the camera work is slick. But no matter how much you polish the outside, it can't hide the fact that the script is hollow. Think of it as putting designer curtains in a crumbling building-it makes for a good Instagram reel, but you wouldn't want to live there.
Supporting characters, like the regal matriarchs and scheming royals, are either cartoonishly evil or laughably one-note. Zeenat Aman's brief appearances are wasted, and Sakshi Tanwar, though commanding as always, feels underutilized. It's like the creators had these incredible ingredients and managed to burn the whole dish anyway.
Worse yet, the show takes itself so seriously. If it leaned into camp or embraced the absurdity of its own setup, it might have worked as a guilty pleasure. But no-it wants you to believe it's profound. It isn't. It's dramatic fluff trying to wear the crown of social commentary, and the result is unintentionally hilarious.
In short, The Royals is all style, zero substance. It tries to be a crown jewel in Netflix's collection of Indian originals but ends up more like cheap costume jewelry-shiny, hollow, and not worth the time.
One star because even bad shows deserve a little pity. But watch at your own risk.

WHAT A MESS! Horrible direction, bad music and BGM. Superficial acting, unbearable Bhumi 😭😭😭 just random actors chucked together with no character arcs. Ishan and Sakshi tanwar are probably the only saving grace.
This is a perfect guide on how you should not make a show, when you spend exuberant budget only on fashion and opulence and the basics are ignored, reflects the complete incompetence of the makers. So many actors wasted! Sumukhi was barely there and whenever she would appear , it would be only for forced comic relief. Bhumi what have you done to your self, atleast your acting skills shouldn't have been part of your damage. The plot wasn't that bad tbh, the execution was horrendous. Ishan and bhumi's chemistry is also so OFF.

Same storyline, nothing is new. Very bad choice of the main actors. The age difference of Bhumi and Ishan is clearly visible. On top she couldn't even give natural expressions nowadays. Although bhumi was great in her previous movies but not this. She tried so hard to give expressions ,Looked so unnatural. Bhumi really didnt quite fit in . Also there is no great story or suspense they have created. Everything is too predictable. I'm disappointed, it was very weird to see their chemistry. All other actors were good. Ishan looks promising though. BUT as a whole the story, cast, chemistry, sucks.
No chemistry between main actors
Overkill
Fake
Dont waste your time
Ishaan's shirtless scenes does not compensate for Bhoomi's bad acting.
The story itself had potential, but the writing was lazy and full of clichés. Every plot twist was predictable. Nothing surprised me. The dialogue was so bad at times I actually laughed, even though it wasn't supposed to be funny. I couldn't tell if the show wanted to be serious or silly. It just didn't work.
The production looked nice in some scenes, like the costumes and locations, but even that couldn't make up for the bad acting and poor writing. It felt like they spent all the money on visuals and didn't care about the story or performances.

This show is not good. And yet...I enjoy watching it. I like the characters. Ishaan and his women are all hottt. Love the side story about the chef brother. The sister and her situation are cute. The palaces and jewelry is nice to watch. The expensive cars and gorgeous horses don't hurt either. I think people are hating on Bhumi way more than needed. She looks great and acts the part. The main characters and their story, cringe but unfortunately realistic. Ishaan shines bright. He looks great and acts well. It's a cute show with nothing new or spectacular. It's basic but watchable if you want an escape.

I feel this series is receiving a lot of hate, but i feel we should sometimes put the hate for a particular actress aside and watch being a neutral to not let things cloud your judgement as an audience.
This series came as a surprise, the the cast surprised me. Not great acting, but ofcourse the twists would blow your mind. They weren't forced. Felt smooth. Something you couldn't just guess. You would be thinking that's a happy ending right there and there goes your happy ending just like that with the plot twist.
Overall, I finished it in two nights despite having an exam to study. Very binge worthy for Moms, for the younger population not to suitable, the ones who are interested in drama, spicy romance, rule breaking, etc., this series is a perfect watch for you guys.

I don't understand the hate for the show!
It's a good watch. A bunch of good actors completely justifying their roles!
I would agree Bhumi didn't fit the role! She isn't a match for someone like Ishan (sorry about that), but seriously could not feel the chemistry at all!
Everything else was great about the show! Each and every actor (except Bhumi) was a great fit.
Ishaan was awesome and you could see the effort he put in to play this character. Vihaan as always a charm to watch; what an amazing actor he is! Sakshi Tanwar, just wow; her humour was on point! Overall a great cast and a good watch!

Everyone has written about different opinion on the reason due to which this show makers missed a good opportunity.
For me the 1st and only fault of this show is casting Bhumi Pednekar , Don't get me wrong i admire acting skills of Bhumi , last movie i saw her in was Bhakshak and she was brilliant, it's not about acting, this role didn't suit her that's what I felt , i didn't feel any chemistry between her and ishaan khattar, make a show about siblings and cast bhumi as elder sis and ishaan as younger bro that's apt.
So for me there is nothing to watch if the characters didn't have any chemistry.
Without the chemistry between characters everything feels silly, unnatural, overdone and boring.
I won't comment about anything else as i couldn't digest the casting of main female lead and look beyond that.
To the casting director, what the hell bro ??

The creators are actually taking us the audience as stupid. There is no appreciation in the creators mind of the behavior of Royalty. Their behaviors seem to be some sort of fantasies of the creative team rather than some real research.
The behavior of CEOs and Board of companies also left a lot to be desired. But unlike some "prime" shows that have a beautiful story to tell, Netflix appears to have no real quality in selection of Indian story telling on screen.
The pure pathetic characterisation of the fat CEO Secretary was abominable and poor social responsibility of the production team.
I truly hope that the Indian audience learn to critically appraise how some of these shows are insulting their intelligence.
Sitting through this series was truly painful.

Shocker!
Everyone seems poorly casted... Ishaan and Bhumi are both good actors with calibre but both aren't suited to these roles. No royal feels here, and Bhumi fails to pull off the career Oriented and highly successful/ HOT CEO they're trying to project her as. She has delivered some great movies in the past, but this role is not for her.
Poor direction / casting (every character!) / costumes / and not even close to anything Royal. They're trying to make a joke of the members of the portrayed Royal family... trying way too hard to make Ishaan stand out as the only sane guy. But nah!
Appreciate the effort that goes behind production of shows, but sorry - this one really disappoints, so much so I had find a space to write a review!

Don't waste your time watching this, I tried. There is nothing gripping, but a predictable and flimsy storyline. Ishaan was convincing in his character and made the show watchable. I can't understand why Bhumi was chosen for this role, she really can't act (and should try a new career), looks old and is too enamoured by her own new silhouette. There is zero chemistry between Bhumi and Ishaan, whereas at least Nora added some much needed glam and did justice to her character. Royal palaces were a visual treat and helped salvage the show a bit! Overall, disappointing production from Pritish Nandy.
