What Happened to Casey White and Vicky White? 'Jailbreak: Love on the Run' Doc Tells the True Story
Image
In 2022, Vicky White told her colleagues she was ready to retire. For 17 years, she’d been working long hours at the Lauderdale County Detention Center in Florence, Alabama, as the assistant director of operations. Her co-workers wondered how the place would function without her. Beloved by staff and detainees alike, Vicky was known both for competence and compassion. “She treated everybody like they were somebody,” says former Lauderdale County Detention Center inmate Tyler Purser in the documentary Jailbreak: Love on the Run. “She was like [the] mother … that everybody in there never had growing up.”

Directed by Dan Abrams and executive produced by Rachel Stockman, Jailbreak: Love on the Run brings together Vicky White’s friends and former colleagues. They try to figure out how an incarcerated person and one of the employees in the detention center managed to fall in love and plan a prison break.

“What made...

Streaming Ratings: ‘Monsters’ Jumps 40 Percent in Second Week
Image
Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story led Nielsen’s streaming charts for a second straight week — and grew substantially from its debut.

The Ryan Murphy-produced series was the top title for the week of Sept. 23-29 with just under 2.4 billion minutes of viewing time. That’s a 40 percent improvement on the drama’s opening week (it premiered Sept. 19), which had 1.72 billion minutes of watch time, and the highest total for any streaming series in Nielsen’s rankings since Bridgerton hit 2.47 billion minutes in June.

Two other Netflix series had strong opening weeks: Rom-com Nobody Wants This premiered to 1.04 billion minutes of viewing, and the docuseries Mr. McMahon, about World Wrestling Entertainment impresario Vince McMahon, had 908 million minutes.

On the film chart, Inside Out 2 debuted on Disney+ to 1.82 billion minutes of watch time, the second highest weekly total for any film this year, behind only Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F...

Stephen King's $473M Horror Adaptation Becomes Netflix Hit
Image
It Chapter 2 has become a streaming hit on Netflix in the U.S. Based on the 1986 horror novel by author Stephen King, the sequel serves as a follow-up to It (2017), with both films having been directed by Andy Muschietti. The first It film follows a group of kids living in Derry, Maine, as they face off against a terrifying, shape-shifting clown called Pennywise (Bill Skarsgrd), while the sequel follows these same characters 27 years later as they return to their hometown. Both films were box office successes, with the sequel grossing $473 million worldwide.

Now, new Netflix data reveals that It Chapter 2 ranks as the seventh most popular movie on the streamer in the U.S. for the week of September 30 to October 6. Unlike with the global chart, the U.S. chart doesn't include watch data for each of the top 10 titles, but the It sequel comes ahead of films...

“Nobody Wants This” hasn’t just overtaken viewers’ hearts; it’s overtaken the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s Top 10 most-watched English-language TV shows. The Kristen Bell and Adam Brody romantic comedy surpassed the viewership for “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” in its second week of eligibility.

Overall, the series secured 15.9 million views compared to the 13.1 million views “Monsters” saw during the week of Sept. 30 to Oct. 6. This isn’t the first time these two shows have shared the first and second spots. Last week, their ranking was reversed with Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s “Monsters” scoring 19.5 million views in its second week on the streamer and “Nobody Wants This” seeing 10.3 million views in its first week.

The two current TV powerhouses were followed by the seventh season of “Love Is Blind,...

‘Nobody Wants This’ Surpasses ‘Monsters’ To Take Over Netflix TV List; Spanish Thriller ‘Platform 2’ Is Week’s Most-Watched Title
Image
Audiences can’t get enough of Adam Brody and Kristen Bell in Netflix’s Nobody Wants This.

In its first full week on the streamer, the 10-episode romcom rose to 15.9M views, making it No. 1 in TV and the most-watched English language title of the week. It couldn’t beat The Platform 2, a Spanish thriller, which generated 19.4M views and topped the Non-English film list.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story fell to second place during this interval, still tallying 13.1M views, while Love is Blind Season 7 launched with 5.2M views.

Heartstopper also returned to the list with Season 3 amassing 4.5M views, which was good enough for fourth place. The Perfect Couple is also still holding onto a spot at No. 5 with 3.8M views. Meanwhile, Season 4 of Emily in Paris is losing steam, coming in at No. 9 with 2.6M views.

Things were a bit slow on the English films list.

Luminate Streaming Ratings: ‘Nobody Wants This’ and Menendez Brothers Series Tie With 1.7 Billion Minutes Watched September 27-October 3
Image
“Nobody Wants This” debuted at No. 1 on Luminate’s weekly rankings of streaming original viewership, tying last week’s top title — “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” — each with a strong 1.7 billion minutes.

A rom-com series starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, “Nobody Wants This” achieved that total in its first full week of availability on Netflix, while “Monsters” was in its second full week, having debuted at No. 1 with 2.7 billion minutes watched during the Sept. 20-26 viewing window.

The third-most-watched title of the week was Netflix's Vince McMahon docuseries "Mr. McMahon," which hit 765.6 million mintues watched in its first full week of availability. It was followed by Season 2 of "Tulsa King," which released its third episode during this window and hit 568.5 million minutes watched. "Tulsa King" Season 1 also made the chart this week, landing at No. 7 with 228.5 million minutes watched.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ #1 on VOD, Spanish ‘The Platform 2’ Tops Netflix Top 10
Image
Number two film of the summer “Deadpool & Wolverine” (Disney), held back from any home viewing until after its tenth weekend in theaters, took the #1 spot on both iTunes (ranking by transactions) and Fandango (by revenue). But perhaps only for a brief stay.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” (Warner Bros.), a major hit though not quite in the same league as the Marvel sequel ($235 million U.S./Canada gross so far versus $634 million; both films still in the top 10) will likely replace it when released Tuesday on PVOD after its fifth weekend. That feels a little early (32 days), more so since Tim Burton’s sequel is still #3, with over $10 million.

But if anything, it appears PVOD release boosts theatrical play as of late, at least in the short term. In any event, with the opening weekend debacle of “Joker: Folie à Deux” (revised downward to $37.8 million), it will provide some immediate cash to the Burbank studio.

Kingsman Stars Infamous Robin Hood Movie With 14% Rt Score Finds Streaming Success 6 Years Later
Image
Despite returning the property to a dormant state after its release, Taron Egerton's infamous Robin Hood reboot has found new life on streaming. Starring Egerton as the titular folklore rogue, Otto Bathurst's 2018 movie saw a disgraced Robin take up arms against the corrupt powers ruling Nottingham that took his wealth and status to further their own cause, joining forces with the rebelling commoners. Robin Hood also starred Jamie Foxx as Robin's accomplice John, Eve Hewson as his love interest Marian, and Ben Mendelsohn as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Despite a poor performance at the box office and poor impressions on critics, Robin Hood is finding a surprising new audience on Netflix. Though it holds an unenviable 14% among critics' reviews and a slightly more impressive but still unremarkable 39% among viewers, the feature recently entered Netflix's Top 10 Movies. At the time of writing, Egerton's 2018 reboot holds the No. 8 spot, coming...

Sylvester Stallone & Arnold Schwarzenegger's Prison Escape Movie Finds Streaming Success 11 Years Later
Image
Escape Plan, the 2013 Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger prison action thriller, has enjoyed a new lease of life on the streaming platform Netflix. The movie, which co-stars 50 Cent, Jim Caviezel, Vinnie Jones, Amy Ryan, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Sam Neill, was directed by Swedish filmmaker Mikael Hfstrm, with a screenplay by Miles Chapman and Arnell Jesko. The movie received mixed reviews and was a box office success, grossing $137 million against a budget of $54 million to $70 million, and was followed by two sequels, both featuring Stallone.

Now, 11 years after the movie's initial release, it appears to be enjoying fresh success on streaming giant Netflix, with the film entering the platform's Top 10 movies in the United States for today. The movie has debuted at number 5 on the charts, edging out the Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg action-comedy 2 Guns, It: Chapter Two, Robin Hood, Jailbreak: Love On the Run, and 2018 Halloween remake,...

Who Tyler Purser Is & What Happened To Him After Jailbreak: Love On The Run
Image
Warning: this article contains themes of assault, domestic abuse, and murder

Netflix's true-crime documentary, Jailbreak: Love on the Run, has divided opinion, particularly concerning the love affair between long-time violent felon Casey White and Vicky White (surnames entirely co-incidental), the Assistant Director of the Fort Lauderdale County Jail from which the pair fled in April 2022. Jailbreak: Love on the Run's true story examines the origins of White's relationship, and traces its development through the eyes of Vicky White's former colleagues, friends, and the felons who were under her supervision.

Casey White was serving a 75-year sentence in Bessemer, Alabama for a crime spree including home invasion, car-jackings and multiple shootings, when he confessed to the 2015 murder of Connie Ridgeway in Rogersville, and was subsequently transferred to Fort Lauderdale in 2020 to await trial. There he came under the supervision of 17-year veteran corrections officer Vicky White. At some point...

‘The Penguin’ Flies High on Streaming Top 10 | Charts
Image
Don’t let anyone say crime doesn’t pay, because it’s clearly enough to drive a program to the top of the streaming chart on the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report. “The Penguin,” the Max gangster series about DC Comics’ bird-like crime boss (and famous Batman nemesis), remains at No. 1 for the second consecutive week.

It’s followed by a show about horrific real-world crime, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” This Netflix series uses actors to tell the infamous story of the Menendez brothers, who were convicted of murdering their parents. It is the second season of Ryan Murphy’s “Monster” series, which focused on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in its first season.

Crime may pay when it comes to viewership, but a little anxiety doesn’t hurt either. “Inside Out 2,” the highest-grossing movie of 2024, comes in third this week after it was added to Disney+ on Sept.

Arnold Schwarzenegger & Sylvester Stallone Action Thriller Climbing Netflix's Top Charts
Image
Have you heard of the "Escape Plan" franchise? There's no reason to fret if you haven't, as only the first film in the series -- simply titled "Escape Plan" -- was a moderate hit, garnering mixed reviews at the time of release. The remaining two entries ended up being straight-to-video sequels, with little to no marketing to amplify their existence, so it is pretty natural to have completely missed out on the franchise.

Well, due to the baffling, arbitrary nature of Netflix's algorithm, which often leads to overlooked titles landing in their Top 10 ranking lists, 2013's "Escape Plan" is currently at #3 among the streaming platform's Top 10 Movies in the U.S. (via FlixPatrol). This entry has been eclipsed by two equally unconventional titles: the inoffensive, yet mediocre "The Garfield Movie" at #2, and the morbid 90-minute crime documentary "Jailbreak: Love on the Run" occupying the number one spot.

If you never heard of "Escape Plan,...

‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ Maintains Reign on Netflix With 19.5 Million Views, Outpacing ‘Nobody Wants This’ Debut

“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” maintained its reign as the most-watched TV show of the week on Netflix, outpacing the opening weekend of “Nobody Wants This.”

Ryan Murphy’s second “Monsters” installment scored 19.5 million views in its second week on the streamer, making it the most-watched title on Netflix this week. Viewership for the Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch-led series, which made it in the top 10 in 89 countries was nearly double that of the debut of “Nobody Wants This.”

‘Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story’ Is Netflix’s Most-Watched Weekly Title As ‘Nobody Wants This’ Debuts In Second Place For TV
Image
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story saw strong audience growth in its first full week on Netflix, tallying 19.5 million views from September 23-29.

That’s up pretty significantly from the 12.3 million it managed in its debut weekend, making it No. 1 in TV and the streamer’s most-watched title of the week.

However, it’s still down quite a bit from its predecessor, Dahmer: Monster – The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which was already becoming one of Netflix’s biggest hits ever by this point after its release. That series racked up about 300M views in its first full week on Netflix, which would translate to around 33M “views” by the streamer’s current metric.

Nobody Wants This took second place, putting up a nice 10.3M views in its first four days post-premiere. Meanwhile, The Perfect Couple is still going strong with 6M views, good enough for third place.

“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” debuted with 2.7 billion minutes watched in its first full week of availability on Netflix, easily landing on top of Luminate’s weekly ranking of streaming original viewership. The Ryan Murphy series was nearly three times above the next-most-watched title of the week: “The Perfect Couple,” which hit 916.4 million minutes watched in its third full week of availability.

There was another large drop-off between second place and third place, with “Tulsa King” Season 2 accruing 916.4 million minutes watched in the week of the release of its second episode. Next was a tie: “Emily in Paris” Season 4 in the second full week of availability of Part 2, and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 in the first full week of availability of its sixth episode and the first day of availability of its seventh episode. Where Casey White Is Today: What Happened To Jailbreak: Love On The Run's Prison Escapee
Image
The following article contains mention of suicide.

Casey White was able to escape from prison in 2022 but couldn't evade capture or a new sentence, as detailed in Jailbreak: Love on the Run. The 2024 Netflix true crime documentary film follows the true story of Casey and Vicky White, a couple who were the source of widespread media attention when she helped him break out of prison. Prior to the escape, Vicky White worked as the assistant director of operations at the Lauderdale County Detention Center in Florence, Alabama, (where Casey White was imprisoned) for 17 years. However, her final day on the job didn't go as expected.

‘Jailbreak: Love on the Run’ Wins Battle of Netflix Docs; ‘It Ends with Us’ Tops VOD

It’s no surprise that Justin Baldoni’s “It Ends with Us” (Sony) with Blake Lively is an immediate #1 for its PVOD release 46 days after its very successful theatrical run. It replaced Zoë Kravitz’s “Blink Twice” (Amazon MGM) as #1. The psychological thriller is #2 this week at both iTunes (ranking by transactions) and Fandango (by revenue), with both films renting for 48 hours for $19.99.

The VOD charts remained otherwise mainly steady, with Netflix’s top 10 seeing large-scale changes and some signficant original additions. These include two documentaries, one just after significant festival exposure, the other a salacious true crime story that has already seen one previous film based on a prison escape that happened only two years ago.

Chris Pratt's Garfield Movie Becomes Netflix Hit Following $257M Box Office Run
Image
Chris Pratt's return to the animation genre is proving just as much of a streaming success as theatrical one as The Garfield Movie is already becoming a Netflix hit. The movie serves as a reboot of the franchise based on Jim Davis' beloved comic strip, with Pratt taking over the role from Bill Murray in the live-action/CGI hybrid movies. Following the titular cat as he's reunited with his long-lost father and goes on an adventure with him and Odie, The Garfield Movie was poorly received by critics, but generally embraced by audiences, grossing over $257 million against its $60 million production budget.

Just shy of four months after making its theatrical debut, The Garfield Movie premiered on Netflix as part of the streamer's exclusive rights deal with Sony, and it's already proving to be a hit for both parties. At the time of writing, the movie is maintaining the No.
