The first half of the movie I'd rate a 4 or 5. The last 40 minutes is a total Zero.
They probably figured the Japanese are so good at combining horror, action & comedy that it should be easy to do. Obviously it's not that easy. I had to stop & check if this really was supposed to be a comedy, even in part. There is not a single funny minute or second in this movie. The action is poorly choreographed and often out of place. The horror was limited to a couple of scenes and they were boring.
This movie revolves around Miri played by Rufa Mae Quinto who is the only half decent actor. There's a lot of over acting & under acting. A number of scenes go on too long with redundant dialogue to hammer home some small detail. And yet there is so much important to the story we never learn.
The last 40 minutes is a disaster. One scene after another of people doing ridiculous things. I won't give any spoilers but things like a young man leaving his phone at home? This is 2013 with iPhone 5 & Android 4. Everyone at a dangerous building, walking into a dark room, closing the door and only then looking for a light switch? The last major scene is a long one that is supposed to be funny (I think) but is so stupid I had to not only stop the movie but turn off my TV totally. But unfortunately that scene is important because it is where they tie together all the characters although it did not make a lot of sense.
This movie was not just bad or awful but stressful at times to watch. So stressful I had to completely turn off my TV for a time. Do Not watch this movie. You have been warned!
