If you enjoy period pieces like Bridgerton, this Spanish comedy set in Madrid during the late 1880's will entertain you. The lovely Elena starts right off by breaking the fourth wall, talking directly to you, giving her opinion of what to expect, and what not to expect from the love story that she is about to be a part of. If you read the basic plot summary of this series, you already know the gist of what it's already about, so I won't bore you.
This is why I enjoyed it: I loved the colors selected for the wardrobe. Ranging from vivid corrals contrasting with intense turquoise, and chartreuse. I'm sure that liberties were taken with what people actually wore during that period, but it creates a frivolous fantasy that is very opulent.
Flower arrangements are splashed in every decor and the outdoor landscapes and gardens are lush with blooms. Even the carriages can be colorful. Picture a sky blue coach drawn by a team of prancing chestnut horses. Sigh.
The sets are done in some Spanish mansions on location, and are lavishly decorated to the hilt.
The outdoor countryside parties are gorgeous, and the food and drinks cover every possible table setting.
These rich people love to eat and drink in excess, no matter where they are.
You never really see any downtrodden poor people, as in some other series.
There are not as many indoor balls as Bridgerton, but the ones that occur are filled with some well choreographed, modernized ballroom dancing accompanied by classical versions of modern day hits. Some of the soundtrack features memorable hits preformed by artists in the 70's and 80's.
Nothing is off-limits. It's humor is quick-witted, and there is a lot of back and forth sarcastic put downs between various romantic couples. It's light and spicy. The drama is never really tense, but there is just enough intrigue, hidden secrets, and plot twists to keep you interested. Flashbacks fill in critical plot holes going back hours or a few days, but happen in later episodes, to keep you guessing. Many times you will follow one plot, only to have Elena break out, and tell you that that's not what happened, and then proceeds to correct the plot. She constantly let's you know what she's thinking about. It can get a bit repetitious, but that's her charming self. I'm sure that Netflix is counting on a successful series rating, and already has season 2 in the works.

The show is funny and quirky. The setting of 19th century Spain is a nice change to the "typical" 19th century setting of England. (Maybe I have just read way too many novels from that time period.)
The show is well designed and written with all its plot twists and surprises, and I would have given it a very high rating but I was very disappointed in the very end of the show. The next season was sooo set up that the emotional satisfaction was lacking. Don't build up a main character and her arch to end on such a cliffhanger. Especially when it's not an action show but a romance story. I felt cheated and now feel forced to watch season 2 - which I would have watched anyway, if I had been actually happy with the ending.
The characters are all very well written. I love that it's so female centered and that all of them are so unique. Even the other companions have their own story lines.

The creator and writers of the successful Netflix series, Cable Girls (2017-20) go back further in time for this exquisite Spanish production period piece set in 1880s Madrid, of a cheeky matchmaking chaperone, Elena (Nadia de Santiago made for the role) servicing aristocratic socialites. She manages to swindle her way into a grieving motherless family with the arduous task of attempting to find a suitor for 21-year-old, Cristina, and at the same time keep an eye out on the younger female sibblings who get up to mischieve. What eventuates is a ribald screwball poking fun at strict social norms of the time, with a modern sensability that is perfect entertainment for the romantic cynic at heart...
Someone put a lot of work into this. The sets, costumes and colors are like nothing I have ever seen before. There are colors in this show that I have never before even seen, in my entire life. Every scene looks like a Monet painting but even more colorful. And it's more than just the saturation turned up on the film. I hope it gets some recognition or reward for this because it's the GOAT. The story is a pale rehash of Bridgerton and probably can't stand on its own but with the rest of the elements combined, it's quite watchable, at least I think so. Watch at least one episode and see if it isn't a novel experience for you too.

My mom (a recent widow) and I (a single girl) both love The Lady's Companion, to the point we didn't want Season 1 to end and are devastated we have to wait for Season 2.... There better be a Season 2. We both greatly appreciated how it tackled big emotions (i.e. Death of spouses, miscarriage, societal pressures, and the search for a husband) without feeling too heavy nor depressing. Rather, it exemplified resilience and the ability for us, particularly women, to find strength in subpar circumstances. I think we were able to relate to the characters, and it provided comedic relief to our stressful lives.

The series is as advertised. A light 1880's series, with cheeky jokes and a classic plot.
If you are looking for deep intense captivating series, this is not it.
If you are looking for something easy, warm, cute, cheesy and also well-done, go for it.
I like that no character is perfect and they try to navigate their imperfections. They are loveable and annoying at the same time. There is no truly bad guy or good guy, just normal people making a ton of bad choices and trying to navigate the consequences. It makes it more relatable and realistic.
A nice drama where everyone care about each other.

What an incredible show and captivating story! The visuals are breathtaking, the acting is impeccable, and the production is simply stunning. The vibrant and cheerful color palette adds to the overall positive and uplifting atmosphere. However, the costume design could have been a bit more realistic. While the colors are still beautiful, the costumes are quite impractical and not well-suited for the characters' figures. Additionally, the quality of the couture is quite poor, and it doesn't seem to have been tailored professionally. It's puzzling who designed these costumes. If not for the wardrobe design, production, and construction, this show would have easily earned a 10-star rating. The actresses are gorgeous, and the male actors are highly attractive. I suppose we were fortunate enough to witness the exceptional production of Lidia Poët, which was truly a masterpiece of workmanship!

I barely watched episode 1, 2 and part of 3, then last half of the 8 episode so I know how it ends and honestly, the story was completed. Totally not worth all your time to watch all episodes. I don't get why the rating is so high, it's childish and almost not funny at all. Everything is way too pink and goofy, I can see how they tried to copy the Brigertons and make money out of their success, instead it's just a soapy series with bad music and way way too many unnecessary scenes, chatter and I think they also copied the story telling pattern from other movies. Generally not binge worthy and boring. Also boring ending.

From the moment from opening, this is a unique staging that is carried out with brilliance. Fast paced dialogue and plot. That capture the viewer. This set and costume alone, are breathtaking. Let alone the architecture. Every shot is a visual feast. The actress who is the heroine is wonderful. This is a very unique Netflix entry.
There is a Sense of wit and comedy, that is bracing and a breath of fresh air. The idea of a woman's voice and power in a time when neither were valued is part of the fun there is a sense of comedy raced brace against The feeling of a game afoot. The pace is very enjoyable
I look forward to coming back to review the series when I have completed watching it so far the beginning is extremely promising.
The music choices do not always work for me especially the choice to put modern tunes with historical storytelling. But I admire the attempt.

I was so excited to watch this show, especially knowing it stars Nadia de Santiago (who I loved in Cable Girls) and Álvaro Mel (from A Perfect Story).
The story reminded me a lot of Cable Girls in that it was definitely a period piece, but with fun modern twists and some hilarious music choices. The dialogue is fast-paced and really funny at times.
Visually, it's colorful and dreamy. It might not have the huge budget of Bridgerton, but I love the take on 1800s fashion, and some of the dresses were gorgeous.
I did wish for a little more spark between the leads, but Nadia de Santiago had great, natural chemistry with Carloto Cotta as the cute duke.
If you're a fan of Cable Girls, Bridgerton, or A Perfect Story, I would recommend checking this one out. It's fun, charming, and binge-worthy.

Absolutely adored binging this snazzy little number from start to finish! It was such a visual feast-lavish costumes, dreamy lighting, and settings that made me want to pack my bags and move into a Spanish villa immediately. The cast? A delightful mix of charming, ridiculously attractive men and sharp, charismatic women. The chemistry was electric, and the witty banter kept me laughing all the way through.
The gardens and architecture deserve a whole paragraph of their own-utterly divine! Every scene felt like stepping into a dream: part Bridgerton romance, part Downton Abbey grandeur, and sprinkled with that delightful Jane Austen sass, all wrapped up in a sun-soaked, comedic Spanish fiesta.
Pure escapist joy with just the right touch of drama and mischief. I'm officially hooked-and counting down the days until the next season drops!

I was not sure what to expect when starting this short series. But it's a very quick watch with lovely acting, gorgeous costume design, and many very likeable characters. I really enjoyed the set designs, music choices, and casting choices that complemented the lighthearted storyline. Similar to a Brigerton vibe, but with much less scheming, backstabbing and royalty (lol), so therefore much more fun in my opinion. If you like regency era stories mixed with romantic comedies it should be a good choice for an immersive binge. Recommend this to watch for a quick pick me up. Escapism at its finest!

FINALLY, a new very heart jumping romantic comedy with a kind of storytelling I had never watched before. Surprising and interesting, funny, romantic and clever. Sometimes even breathtaking because I was so excited what would happen in the other moment. I loved everything on these 8 episodes. What I don't love is that Netflix didn't announce another season yet and I really hope that Netflix doesn't stop again such a good series like they do much too often. We need more of this show! Never thought that a Spanish series would let me binge watching like this did! Very good characters, talented actors. Although you can see the protagonist's difference in age (the female actor is older than the male actor) but I still loved to follow their love story and really hope it will be completed soon in another season.
