Well, I have to say that I was lured in by this 2022 horror movie's cover. Needless to say that I had never heard about the movie prior to watching it. But it being a horror movie was essentially all that was needed for me to sit down and watch it.
Writers and directors Jason Rader and Jason Von Godi put together a semi-adequate enough slasher script here. Sure, "The Hoot Owl" was watchable, but it wasn't a particularly outstanding horror movie. It suffered from being a low budget movie, but not managing to do what the 1982 "Evil Dead" did on its budget.
The storyline was adequate enough for a single viewing, and I doubt that I will ever be returning to watch "The Hoot Owl" a second time.
The acting in "The Hoot Owl" was as to be expected from a movie of this caliber, production and budget. And with that being said, don't get me wrong, because I've seen far worse acting performances, and even in bigger budget movies. But you know what you are in for here with a movie such as "The Hoot Owl". I wasn't familiar with a single actor or actress here.
Something that definitely worked in favor of the movie was the gore, blood and special effects. Sure, "The Hoot Owl" is a low budget movie, but the special effects were actually good enough and gory enough to keep a gorehound like myself happy. And I will say that the blood and gore in "The Hoot Owl" actually makes it worthwhile watching the movie.
The movie's cover was rather interesting and alluring. But it was actually also the best part about the entire movie, sadly so.
My rating of "The Hoot Owl" lands on a three out of ten stars.

The "acting" is beyond terrible, every character was truly unlikeable. Its like there was no script. I love a good bad horror film, but this is just a bad bad film. It takes 55mins for ANYTHING to happen, and the film is only 1hr 10 mins long, and that's 1hr 10mins too long.
The film hasn't a single redeeming quality. It's not a so bad it's funny film, it's a film that's trying to be serious, but the only thing it is, is seriously bad.
Normally with a film like this you have at least one half decent actor/actress, but somehow they have managed to find the 6 worst actors in the northern hemisphere. A truly remarkable achievement.
Dreadful Dreadful film by any standard.

Some people hang around in a forest for no reason and then a hoot owl type person ( or so i assume) kills them. So... With a title like The Hoot Owl, what the hell were you expecting? The equivalence to The Godfather? The Empire Strikes Back? Oh! I'm so sorry it couldn't live up to those expectations. God! So..... Yes it is a tragedy but it was an entertainingly fun and happy tragedy. Great acting, great story, efficient and professionally directed.... every thing that The Hoot Owl is not. But if you watch this for the gore, then this will suffice. Particularly a scene where blood is gushing out a man's lady parts trying to birth a kid in graphic like fashion. Yummers! Anyways, I enjoyed this despite being a volcanic cesspool.
An hour and 10 minutes I will mourn the loss of for a long time after sitting through this absolute trash of a thing that doesn't have anything at all to redeem it The acting is atrocious ,storyline is atrocious and the cinematography is atrocious, the best thing about this is the end credits knowing I will never see it again let alone hear it, even the soundtrack is atrocious.
Please, please, please IMDB let us have minus ratings even if there aren't enough minus numbers to rate this creation from the mind of a complete and utter simpleton who should never, ever be allowed to write another word in their entire life.

I would have like to learn more about what happened to the previous owners and what transpired to cause the murder why and what happened to the twins. Each of the characters back stories would have been nice as well. The acting wasn't as good I thought it could of been. I like grade B horror that's why I'm so disappointed. It would've been great to know if the twins were the people inhabiting the land what happened to the guy who went to get help what the baby looked like. What became of April and the baby. The effects were good but the movie was lacking any story or reason for any of what transpired.

- WissenswertesThe bone mask came from an idea Allan David Carroll had as a kid when Jason Rader and he were growing up in the Flatwoods of Northeast Texas.
- PatzerDrew is reading to karate chop the branch, but you can clearly see the cut already made to to bottom of it.
- Crazy CreditsSPOILER: there is a post credit scene of a second baby being born.
