Trying to condense the vast and complex story of Enrico Berlinguer-the leader of the largest communist party in Western Europe-into just two hours was always going to be a challenge. Unfortunately, the film only offers glimpses of his life, failing to fully convey the historical significance of his figure.
The biggest flaw, however, is that Elio Germano simply does not capture Berlinguer's charisma, which was essential to his political presence. As a result, the film feels like a fragmented and ultimately unsatisfying portrait of one of Italy's most important political leaders.
A figure like Berlinguer would have deserved either an eight-episode TV series or a film focused on a specific moment of his life, rather than this rushed and superficial attempt to cover everything at once.
