I loved this film. It depicts wartime Ukraine through the eyes of many people, both on the frontline and away from it. It depicts humanity behind the war news headlines in a touching but not overly sentimental way. The film gets the balance just right.
It has superb music throughout, from banging tunes to choral pieces which adds to the rich tapestry of the people and situations depicted.
Food is a theme that appears throughout adding to the sense of humanity and commonality, everyone can relate to food with family, friends and colleagues.
The film really gets under the skin of what it is like to live in a country at war and so is educational as well as a really good watch.
I highly recommend. Bravo!

This film is about Ukraine. I guess you would call it a documentary, but it's not narrated it takes you through the tragedy that is happening in Ukraine! It's not about gunfights it's about the people and their spirit and what they have to endure, which if anyone knows what is happening they will understand.
I defy anyone not to weep during this movie.
There is one scene for which anyone who has watched a love one will understand it broke me all of the emotions.of losing a loved one hit me again.
Benjamin. Goldhagen has done an amazing job of delicately balancing the emotions a movie like has.
I wrpt like a baby and I weep for uKraine now.

This film gives a very good insight to the devastation of war in Ukraine. It is not your typical action movie. It is, however, a very emotional film about people caught up in the tragedies of war. The choice of music was really good and really complements the mood in the film. Everyone should se this. It is so easy to forget how terrible war is, and in war what everyone takes for granted is no longer available, like food, water and every day living. Everything is thrown into chaos, but you rely on family, friends and your brothers in arms. I can really recommend this film, but be warned: You will be crying quite a bit at times.
As a completely fluent Ukrainian-American volunteer who makes regular critical supply delivery runs to the front line in eastern and southern Ukraine, this film resonates deeply. We are confident that victory is near, but this is war and wars are impacted by politics. That these beautiful vignettes are saved for posterity in this film, resistant to the whims and winds of geopolitics, provides both joy and relief. I highly recommend watching it all the way through in one sitting.
I also recommend keeping a box of tissues handy. Don't make plans for the rest of the day. Your soul and spirit will be in Ukraine and it will take a moment to retrieve it.

This film was raw, emotional, educational, and powerful. I enjoyed watching it and believe others should do the same. Thank you for sharing these voices and stories. I am praying for an end to this conflict. It really is so devastating what is happening in the world. War is not the answer. Violence is not the answer. Destruction is not the answer. We need unity. We need more love and peace in this world. That is the answer! My family is from Kiev and Lviv. To know that this war is happening hurts them everyday. Praying for Ukraine. Praying for humanity. Light will overcome the dark. A must watch.

This film provides a series of vignettes covering a slice of society from mayor to soldier to volunteer to priest. It's well shot and cut, including great drone shots of Ukrainian scenery and the effects of war. I recommend you take a look.
Now, in lieu of spoiling this film I'll use the remaining characters of the 600 minimum to implore you to call your elected representatives and demand more help for Ukraine. As an ongoing genocide we are ethically compelled to stop this crime against Ukraine as soon as possible. Ukraine is fighting for the future of democracy in Europe. Dithering on helping will only make the fight against imperial Russia more costly in the future.

Most people probably go into this movie thinking they know what it's going to be, but keep an open mind. It gives a unique and intimate POV into what life is like for those on the front lines, those they leave behind, and the strong connection between the two. The filmmaker had access to many environments that few are able to obtain, and the way it's edited gives a visual perspective that leads to a visceral one. It has a specific POV but the filmmaker presents the information in such a way that the viewer is free to make their own conclusions, which is the sign of a well balanced, well put together doc. I thought I'd watch a little bit and then come back for more later, but it's so compelling I watched entire film without realizing the time had flown by.
"To the Zero Line" is a cinematic masterpiece that captures the harrowing realities of war with a piercing authenticity that leaves an indelible mark on its audience. Set against the backdrop of Ukraine's full-scale invasion, this film transcends the boundaries of traditional war dramas, delving deep into the human condition and the essence of what it means to be alive amidst chaos.
Director Ben skillfully weaves a narrative that is both intensely personal and universally resonant. The story unfolds in a war-torn landscape where the stakes are unimaginably high - not just military victories, but the very survival of culture, heritage, and innocent lives. Through the lens of the invaded, we witness the unyielding spirit of a nation fighting for its very existence, set against an enemy bent on genocide.
What sets "To the Zero Line" apart is its focus on the intimate moments of life that continue amidst devastation - the birth of children, a wedding, the stark pain of death and loss. These poignant vignettes are masterfully interwoven with scenes of soldiers battling on the front lines, creating a tapestry that depicts the full spectrum of human experience during war.
The film also highlights the universal nature of such a conflict. It poses challenging questions to the audience, especially those in the UK, USA, Germany, and France, about the nature of empathy, courage, and action in the face of such overwhelming adversity. It's a clarion call to recognize our shared humanity and the thin line that separates peace from war.
Performances in the film are stellar, with each person bringing a raw, unfiltered realism. The cinematography is equally impressive, capturing the stark beauty of Ukraine even in its darkest hours, and the score resonates with the emotional depth of the narrative.
In conclusion, "To the Zero Line" is more than just a film; it's a profound exploration of the human spirit under siege. It's a reminder of the resilience and courage that people can muster in the face of terror and loss. This film doesn't just tell a story about a country at war; it holds up a mirror to our collective soul, asking poignant questions about sacrifice, love, and what it truly means to fight for one's home and values. A must-watch for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the ongoing conflict and the unquenchable spirit of the Ukrainian people.

The reality of what's been taking place in Ukraine in an honest and raw form. While being brutally attacked by an aggressor, you must decide. You come together, reflect and find the courage to overcome the evil that threatens your fellow people; your culture; your life. That is exactly what Ukraine is doing right now and right before our eyes. The movie captures the coming together of civilians from all walks of life; their passion for life; how they work together to overcome despite demolished homes, murdered families; looking all-out brutality directly in the eyes. I was particularly moved by moments that involved groups of Ukrainians coming together as one to share duties in the kitchen and in helping others evacuate shelled areas. The definition of courage is contained within.

One of the most endearing aspects of this film is the depiction of Ukrainians just living their lives. From the women cooking and weaving camouflage nets to young men preparing cars for the front line, this film shows how the average Ukrainian contributes to the war effort.
Another aspect that I connected to is the scenes of the choir practicing. I am a member of two choirs and wish I could have joined their rehearsal. The choir director was earnest about his job, and the singers loved participating; it was a healing scene to watch. I learned from the film creator that the choral music was recorded by a choir in Ukraine, which makes it even more special.
From the beginning, I was surprised by the music choices and found them refreshing and unexpected. The contemporary music choices help to situate Ukraine as the modern and European country it is.
Many parts of this film are difficult to watch, but it's important to be aware of what is happening. It is the least we can do.

I thought to myself that I would start by watching a few episodes at first and then continue if I found this movie engaging enough to watch, I must say that I rarely have time or a piece catches my attention to spend the whole 2+ hours watching a movie.
This time it was different, the setup took me from the beginning and kept me involved in the picture until the end of the film. This movie carries you through experiences of tragedy, excitement, Christmas spirit on the front lines, volunteers who do their job with their whole hearts, and soldiers who are most likely not alive anymore given the intensity of war..
This is a movie from people and for people to see more and understand more, highly recommended!

This film gives a first hand view of Russia's genocidal invasion of Ukraine from the perspective of Ukrainians. The filmmaker formed trusting relationships with Ukrainian civilians, volunteers, and military personnel - all fighting for their freedom from Russian oppression. It has an intimate feel, and it is filmed with empathy and compassion. This empathetic approach is woven throughout the film. The filming and editing is visually interesting and artfully done with multiple layers of meaning embedded in the imagery and the soundtrack. It's an important documentary for understanding what is happening in Ukraine.

To The Zero Line is a riveting and heart-breaking documentary, which can be watched in Chapters, that takes you inside war-torn Ukraine, where ordinary people do the extraordinary, fighting for their & others lives, their rights, and their identity. The film shows the stories of several Ukrainian defenders & supporters who represent different aspects of the Ukrainian society, such as a young couple expecting their first child, a veteran soldier who returns to the front line, a volunteer nurse who treats the wounded, and Christmas on the zero line. The film shows the daily struggles, the joys, and the sorrows of these people, who are living in constant fear and uncertainty, but also in hope and solidarity. The film also features interviews with experts, activists, and witnesses, who provide historical, political, and humanitarian perspectives on the conflict. The film is a powerful and moving portrait of a nation under siege, and a tribute to the courage and resilience of its people. It is also a call to action, and a reminder that we are all connected, and that we all have a responsibility to stand up for human rights and dignity. To The Zero Line is a documentary that will touch your heart, open your eyes, and inspire your mind. It is a documentary that you should not miss.

Let's get something straight first: Most of the time, if a woman is in a war movie, she's a love interest or something for the guys to look at. In reality women do all kinds of
important things during war, so that's why I'm writing this review, to pass on the news that women are
in this film in a way you don't normally see. There's a beautiful birthing scene, which blew my mind.
Would be good in any kind of movie. Women grieving the death of their mates, a girl who recovers from being hit by a missile, women of a village working together, talking about their sons who are fighting.
Strong women. Women medical professionals at the front, a woman who works with BBC. This is a great film that affirms the important role of women in society. Every woman should see this film and be proud!
