Qingyumen a righteous sect takes in Zhang Xiaofan and his friend , two orphans/survivor as disciples .Is the righteous sect evil or the evil sects good ? No , the righteous sect maintains order and the evil sects are truly evil . But there are hypocrite evils in the righteous and few good people in evil sect . The storyline tells it's the human heart that makes people evil or good . A sect or technics doesn't makes one evil or good . And Xiaofan gradually gets to understands that .
But the understanding comes with a cost , that breaks him .
He doesn't take revenge , but whom he will take revenge on ? The righteous sect that gave him shelter and shifu whom he sees as father ? Or the evil sect that accepted him? He makes wrong choices and surely gets the consequences .
The love story is complex as well , guilt and responsibility towards Bi -Yao and his growing feelings over Xueqi . Love , hate , guilt , responsibility , betrayal molds the innocent Xiaofan into ruthless Gui Li . Certainly many disliked Xueqi , Why ? Cause she got her own motivations and responsibilities . She can never be your devoted / damsel in distress fmc . And should she help Xiaofan and join evil sects ? Who're trying to bring chaos in the world ? Definitely not but her heart completely belongs to Xiaofan . She can't betray the sect but can sacrifice everything for him . She's one of the best well written female lead .
The animation quality and ost are beautiful . To be honest I did not touched it before cause it's not your typical shounen action series . It gives a bitter-sweet taste and sadness afterwards . The rich storyline , character growth leaves a lingering feeling in the heart . ( review is based on S1 and S2 , exited for S3 ! )
